MUST BE because last nights 3-11 (more like 3-1am) took a draaaaaaaagggggg on me. Not even an hour into my shift and I hear "pt x is on the floor"! You have got to be kidding me:arghh:? About 45 minutes after that I hear "pt y just threw up". Say it ain't so:banghead:? So, now I have a fall and hospital transfer because pt y's concurrent GI condition requires it. Last night I did my best, but I still cried in front if two of my aides because the other nurses were of no assistance despite the fact that I asked for help. They were aware that I'm new and haven't dealt with certain things before and yet their first responses were " well idk" and "that's not my thing". I ended up calling a manager on their off day to get assistance over the phone. End the night with a wisdom filled COB who offered sound advice on a sarcasm/snark filled platter and there you have it, a very discouraged/burned new grad! By time I left I was hoping the oncoming shift's night would be as busy as mine ( you know the kind ). So, come Monday, I'll be putting on my big girl panties and walking in just tall as I can. Last night was a learning experience from hell, but a learning experience none the less. I love to learn as much as I can, whenever I can, BUT NOT LIKE THAT This new nurse thing is a killer, but so be it ! #ChallengeAccepted.

Ahhh...I remember those days as if they happened yesterday. When I was a new LVN in early 2006, my first job was at a nursing home on the 3 to 11pm shift.
I forgot to add the fact that I only received one whopping 8-hour shift of orientation before being turned loose to work on my own.
