Is MCI VBeach accredited?

HI! IS MCI in VA Beach an accredited institute? I am interested in their RN Program (15mos.) but I am confused coz somebody told me it's not accredited. I am currently doing the pre reqs of Sentara's RN prog. but I heard about MCI and I was told that their RN program is shorter (15mos.) than Sentara (22mos.) What is the benefit if I join the MCi than Sentara? I would like to spare myself time to wait to be included in Sentara's RN program which will be in Aug. (need 13 credits more/pre reqs). That is why I am considering to just study at MCI. But I want to know if it is worth it. Eventually, I want to pursue higher educ. in nursing, but can I do that if I study at MCI? I wonder if my MCI subjects will be credited if I transfer to another school? Where can I find out if MCI is accredited or not? Thanks for your hep.

As has been discussed many time in allnurses threads, being approved by the Board of Nursing is not what most people mean when they say a school is "accredited."

The Board of Nursing approves programs allowing its graduates to take the NCLEX exam and become licensed to practice in their state.

"Accreditation" is the term usually used for a process whereby a professional organization approves a program as having met certain educational standards. There are 2 major nursing organizations that offer accreditation to nursing schools, the National League for Nursing (Diploma, Associate's, and Bachelor's degree programs) and the American College of Collegiate Nurses (Bachelor's degree programs and above, I think).

MCI-Virginia Beach is too new to qualify for NLN accreditation, but I believe they are taking the preliminary steps to apply when they become eligible. You will have to ask them and/or contact the NLN.

The school is in the process of getting NLN accreditation, but there has to be 3 graduating classes (that have taken NCLEX) before they are eligible to receive accreditation status.

Once they have NLN accreditation it is grandfathered to cover the 1st 3 classes.

I am in the RN program & will graduate in Dec!!! YIPPEE!!!

The school is in the process of getting NLN accreditation, but there has to be 3 graduating classes (that have taken NCLEX) before they are eligible to receive accreditation status.

My class will be #3. Once they have NLN accreditation it is grandfathered to cover the 1st 3 classes.

ECPI College of Technology is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Bachelor of Science, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degrees.

Just to clarify for people who may not understand what that means. It means that the school as a whole is accredited by an organization that accredits schools of all types -- not specific to nursing. The NLN is the National League for Nursing, one of 2 organizations that looks to see if the school meets the standards established by the profession of nursing.

First I'll start off saying, "CONGRAD" however I do have a few questions to ask about MCI RN program...what is the intensity level? HOw were the clinicals? WHat is the curriculm like? We should be transferring to that area in a few months and I was inquiry about this school. Were the teachers helpful? Please tell me all that you can about this program, the good and the bad...I know that I'm probably exhausting you with questions but I need to know so that I don't make 27,000 worth of mistakes...LOL:angryfire thank you

I am in the 4th class of RNs. We are pending as stated above and that depends on how many have taken the NCLEX-RN successfully.

I am a night student. I work in the daytime. The schedule is relentless but I expected it to be so. Some mods I only get Friday evenings off. So it does involve not only a huge commitment on your part, but great understanding from family. I do love my instructors. They are a dedicated bunch and they love what they do.....but that in no way means that they are easy. There are times that you feel like you are burning the candle at both ends....and it is likely you feel that way because you are. Other pluses are: I don't have to search or wonder how much my books will cost. They supply 2 sets of uniforms and your nurses kit (part of the tuition of course) They have access to the LIRN library which you will have. It is neat to have access to all the resources. My instructors are knowledgeable and very interesting people.

Yes, it is stressful. Sometimes the bureaucratic crap gets you down. But at the end of the day....I am glad I am going there and can count down the days til I , too, can sit for boards. When you get here, maybe I can show you around. Just ask for me. My name is Heather and I am in the night class graduating in 12/07. I am not trying to sell the place but maybe I can give you some insight. Good Luck with your move.

wow. I didn't know that MCI had a RN night program as well, so how does that work ? Will it take you longer ? What are the hours for the night class? Yes, we are looking to be transferring around May time frame:( , I want to go now, to get started and be finish with it but all will work out for the good. So after this, do you plan on getting your BSN. If so where...I was looking at VCU. Anyhow hope to hear from you soon take care...oh if you like you can PM me...

hi everyone, i just graduated from mci in december 06. it is a lot of work and you basically have no life for 15 months. it is extremely fast paced with classes only being 5 weeks long. i just took my boards and passed. we are in the process of being accredited by the board of nursing. we are in the final stages. write back if you have any questions, i will be happy to answer. ps, good luck to heather!! vanessa

Finally someone who has been there and done that....so what are the night hours for the rn program ? What was your study habits? Do you have plans to get your bsn ? Did the employers contact you before you graduated or after ? How is the graduation ceremony, what is done? I can't wait to go there...I'm ready to get started and finish it, I'm not getting any younger. Oh and another question, Not trying to get into your business or anything but what do they offer a fresh graduate rn in the ER? So I will know what to expect. If you don't feel comfortable telling me this, I understand or you can send me a private message that way it won't be posted for everyone to see.
