Is it impossible to find a full time position at LTC??

Everywhere that I have gone tells me they have part time and I can go on a waiting list!! I wonder if this "waiting list" even exists....I need benefits!!!

I'm not sure where you live, but most places will see how well you do. If they like you, they will hire you as regular staff.

What state are you in? Where I am in Indiana they are all hiring...and full time too, but no benefits for a year. If you are a resident of Indiana you can get involved in the hip (healthy indiana plan) until you've acquired a year under your belt at work.

Evening, Missie:

Sure seems that way, doesn't it? Pretty much the same boat here - ended up taking an "on-call" position just to get SOMETHING on the record! And, I hear you on the bennies - can't qualify for MediCal & can't get a FT position to get health care insurance: to top it off, I've got high blood pressure & diabetes just to make things interesting.

Still - out of the 8 people in my orientation group, the only one that didn't get a full-time position was me. One guy basically told 'em he was only going to work on Mondays; he never made it through orientation. The only other male in our orientation group is a newly-minted RN, who got a FT gig right off the bat, as did the young lady with the LVN, and the other ladies coming on board as CNA's.

Probably the only real benefit I've received is that the Lead CNA (who handles scheduling) has been trying to sneak me in on weekends & odd days during the week so I'm at least getting SOME floor time. The on-call stuff really hasn't been happening, and I don't realistically expect it to change anytime soon.
