Hi there,
I just completed the hurst review and I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether they think that if I know the "core" material presented at hurst, whether that should be enough to pass the nclex. It seems to me that hurst only covers few concepts within different topics and I am not sure if I need to prepare in other ways.

Hey There,
I used Hurst Review for NCLEX-RN prep and that alone will not help you passed the NCLEX. It was a wonderful core content material but it doesn't cover everything. I used that in conjunction with Saunders, Exam Cram, PDA book. These material cover everything you need to pass boards. I passed on 10/10/2012 with 75 questions. I couldn't have done it without Hurst though because that is where I build the foundation. I hope that helps.

I used Hurst and Kaplan strategies book. Those were the only two books I used. Hurst for content and that Kaplan book for tips and strategies. Sorry, I don't remember the full name of it but I picked it up at Barnes and Nobles. Yes, I passed; first try with 78 questions I think lol.. Its been a few years :) The Kaplan book was great for helping with questions that were not content based.

I don't know. Try NCSBN online review. From what I hear, the questions really mimic the NCLEX and there is content review too. NCSBN's Comprehensive Online NCLEX-RN Review Class . NCSBN Learning Extension

Honestly I don't think Hurst is enough. I used Hurst only & failed NCLEX. It's great for content but I needed more. Now I'm using Kaplan Trainers/QBanks, LaCharity PDA, Kaplan strategies book, Feur Audio, NCLEX 4000 in conjunction with Hurst. If I don't understand a top I go back in my Saunders book & read up on it

I used Hurst and passed.
But I also took all but 1 of the practice tests and read the rationales afterward, especially for those that I missed. That is an important step. I think that it is enough of a review to pass NCLEX if you are used to taking NCLEX-style exams and have been exposed to a good number of questions. My tests in nursing school were NCLEX style, so I saw a lot of questions that were similar to the real NCLEX.
Honestly, most of the questions for NCLEX fit into either:
1. ABC
2. Maslow's Hierarchy
3. Priority
Kaplan has other strategies, and I read that as well throughout school. But the month leading up to the exam, I used Hurst online, watched all the videos and took notes, and took the tests. They cover what you need to know and put in tips on the online version. I'm sure it will vary with a live instructor.
