Hi,
I work for a local Home Health agency. Starting a couple months ago, it has been extremely slow on admissions! I was wondering if other HH agencies are experiencing the same?

We've been incredibly busy with an all time high census.

Wow! I just can't figure why we are so slow! Is it permissible for you to steer me in the right direction to apply for a Part Time position? Don't want to leave my company. Been there 5 yrs. But looks like I have to find a Part Time to survive until it picks up again! I'm a very competent infusion nurse with my company :-)

Telling an employee that admissions are "slow" works well if that is the truth, but not if that employee somehow finds out that new hires, or others in general, are getting steady work, while their own phone never rings. At some point in time it makes sense to revise the resume to "last date worked" and look for a new employer altogether. Difficult to know if things really are slowing down if the managers don't have discussions about that matter with the field staff.
I was thinking the same thing, but it's not only me! Problem is, they have hired a bunch of new "salaried" staff and can't even keep them busy! So the rest of us "full time" nurses suffer! If and when we start getting more SOCs, they will fill up the salaried nurses first, then is anything left, we get! It's a shame! I've been with the company over 5 yrs now and do like it, but have to pay mortgage and eat!! I'm starting to work on my resume and will look for part time on the side! Any suggestions? :-)

HHAs are opening every few seconds to deal with more old folks being discharged from hospitals, and more states finding that home based care saves them billions versus nursing homes. You must have found an agency that hasn't figured out a good marketing plan.

Working in Philadelphia, my staff are processing 125 NEW referrals a day for home care and agency is always looking for new staff. 20 miles away in Delaware, sister agency is getting 5-10 referrals a day as hospital based facility with 25% hospital occupancy. Look beyond your current agency: their decline as elective hospital admits down due to patients unable afford copays/deductibles.
