I have a applied for an LPN/LVN position but as of now nobody has called. Is is harder for an older Lpn/Lvn to get hired?
I recalled the example regarding my former nurse manager to suggest that ageism is still interwoven within the fabric of hiring practices in many places. Ageism is an issue in the workplace, and denying its existence would be a dire mistake.By relaying this example spoken by this "manager" continues to display ageism, in my opinion.
If I'm understanding you right, you are suggesting that the proper way to deal with prejudicial attitudes (and other injustices, perhaps?) is to pretend they don't exist? If so, I must disagree.A troll in a forum or a meaningless immature insult is something to ignore. Discrimination from those with actual power over people is something that should have the brightest light possible shined on it. It should be openly discussed for what it is, and the guilty parties should be (at the very least) shamed.
No, you are not understanding me right. I know we are all educated adults, and know that ageism exists without quoting a hurtful ignorant remark made by a "former manager in her 40s." I find this remark to be an insult and take offense to what she said.
I'll give you an example: I could very well quote something one of my nursing instructors said about young students, but I'm not going to tell every one on this board what she said; number one is because I don't agree with it, number two is because I feel that is was a totally ignorant and insultive statement. If I repeated what she said.....it would cause more hurt and anger than it has already caused the young lady she commented to. Choosing not to repeat these hurtful words said by my former instructor, are my morals and I'm not pretending that she didn't say it, I'm just choosing not to repeat it at the expense of offending other's.
Like I said, we all know ageism exists without having to directly quote what people have to say. I'm proud to be the age I am....I like the wisdom that has come with my age, and I also think I look better than I did in my 20s. (Not quite as good as Demi Moore, but close.LOL, JK) Also, I don't think I'm " an argumentative older nurse", I just stand up for what I believe in.
PS. I had no trouble at all getting a job and was at the top of my class.
