I Have A BSN And Have Taken My Boards Three Times Unsuccessfully. Feeling Discouraged, I Didn't Continue To Press On Until I Passed. Now It Is Ten Years Or More Later And I Am Ready To Get Into Me. I Am A Single Mother Who Put Her Life On Hold To Raise Her Son . He Will Be Attending College This Fall And Now I Am Ready To Get My Life In Order And Get Into My Nursing Career. I Know That It Is Going To Be A Challenge But I Am Ready Now. Should I Take My Lpn Or Just Go For The Gusto And Sit For My Rn Boards. Please My Nursing Sisters, I Need Your Guidance And Any Helpful Information That You Can Provide To Give Me That Jumpstart!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated!!!!!!!
God Bless

I would contact the State Board of Nursing where you graduated and find out their recommendations. Also- a lot of hospitals now offer re-entry programs, so after you take your NCLEX, they would offer you a good orientation.
Good luck and let us know what happens.
Your Kind Words Mean Alot. I Will Definitely Keep You Informed
God Bless,:)

Go for the brass ring; whichever one you choose. We will be here to support you either way.
I would not have survived Nursing School, ADN then on to getting my BSN, while going through a divorce (I would sit in lecture and cry occasionally... just because) without a study group. Not only did we learn SO much from each other, some of our large group who would section off to small groups occasionally, became solid friends I STILL, after 6 years, keep in touch with via cell telephones. We supported one another and I learned much better by discussing issues of importance.
I also took Kaplan, even as an honor student, to get me through the NCLEX. I had friends all around who failed it the first (and one the second time) around. I think Kaplan helped me tremendously; there are other courses similiar to this. I have had terrible test anxiety. Kaplan walked me through word problems and my other week areas by first diagnosing where I was week and pointing out why some answers are more right than others. Ex: Psychology answers often encourage the pt. to verbalize their needs; if that is a choice it is probably the right choice.
NCLEX, is NOT a test of skills only; you are testing on your ability to read word problems, think critically, and give the best (1) right answer.
When I walked out of NCLEX, I was sure I failed and I passed. When I walked out of my m/s Board Certification, I was sure I failed and I passed.
So... you keep plugging away... follow YOUR dreams.
