Is going straight to BSN to MSN-NP feasible?

Published

I know I'm getting WAY ahead of myself but I am what you'd call a planner and I like to know what my options are ahead of time. I know there is a lot of swirl about NP going to be a doctorate soon but that still wouldn't alter my overall plans.

I noticed Johns Hopkins has a program where you are entered into an ABSN program and can continue onto an MSN including a NP option. You have the choice to go straight through the program or to take a year off and then come back or go part time for the MSN portion. I figured if a school offered it as an option, it seems like it might be feasible? Would a NP without any official nursing work experience be employable?

You may want to check out the NP forum to hear from NPs there about it. I'll be starting an ABSN program in the Spring. After graduation, I'll take at least a year off to get some experience then head back for the MSN-FNP.

I did hear from someone who went straight into a FNP program with no experience (they were a career changer) and is doing great and said it was the best decision they've made. It's a personal choice.
