I've asked myself this question a lot! Is Europe behind
in it's development in healthcare? I work in Amsterdam
(The Netherlands) and I think that my country is pretty
'modern'. But when new techniques are introduced, it
has been existing for many years in the USA!

I'm dutch myself. I moved here as a child so I don't know what it's like to work there as a nurse. My extended family is all still in Holland. I know when one of them is sick and we discuss things there are times that I think wow that's old school and then other times they tell me about things that I haven't heard of here yet that are pretty cool. I think the main problem with the health care in Europe is that is so stressed. People needing a CABG have to wait for weeks and many die waiting. My SIL had to wait 6 weeks to get a hysterectomy and almost died of acute anemia. I have a cousin who is an RN, no longer working and she told me nurses are not allowed to work more than 8 hours a day and not more than 40 hours a week. That was about 10 years ago. Is this still true?
Het is zo leuk voor me met een ander Nederlands meisje kunnen
converseren dat ook een verpleegster is ! Veel liefs out America !
megneo...
Your country may be small, but beautiful things come in small packages .
It is a LOVELY country.. I've been there many times.
This was taken in Volendam in 1958.. I was nine years old. That's me on the left.
I was there several times in the early seventies as well, and my sister and I participated in a motorcycle rally in Zandvort back then, too.
My son visited A-Dam a couple times just a few years ago.. he loved it. :)
Yes we still have an eight hour shift (long enough!!!)
and most of us work no more then 36 hours a week.
On my ward we are talking about going to a 12 hour shift
but nothing is official yet.
En converseren? hahaha leuk 'ouderwets' woord. dat gebruiken
wij haast niet meer!! maar je nederlands is nog prima hoor!
groetjes!

Well, as another poster noted, here in the US when something new appears, we often hear, "Well, they've been doing this in Europe for years ..."
Maybe this is some special subcategory of "urban myth"?? :chuckle
