I have been working as a travel ICU nurse for some time now. I am finding it a little harder than I anticipated getting hired onto an ICU floor though. I have been offered PCU positions even though I'm a CCRN.
I am wondering through your experience, if it is easier to transfer into a different department or get hired directly. I am debating taking the PCU position, and applying for transfer in 6-8 months.

Really depends on the organization and its needs. I am kind of surprised that you are having difficulty, it seems like you would be a great fit for an ICU spot. In my hospital, PCU and ICU rarely cross-pollinate, though sometimes an ICU nurse will get floated to the PCU.

Most of the PCU nurses I started out with moved on to ICU positions. It really just depends on the company and its culture. Good luck.
