I'm trying to decide if I want to use college network or just buy material off ebay to study for clep exams. Are places like TCN and Excelsior prepping you to take clep exams? If I would just skip college network and just take clep exams how does that even work? I know there are lots of threads on this but I cant find anything directly relating TCN and clep and i wondered what tests TCN is preparing you to take?

I have one word...RUN!!!!! The expense of TCN is outrageous. You can do this on your own through CLEP and Dantes. They offer the materials and their pretests are much more like the actual test you will receive. There have been a lot of threads regarding TCN...you might want to do a search and read what others have posted.

TCN and excelsior are two different entities. Excelsior is an accredited college that grants associates, bachelors and masters degrees in a variety of majors including nursing. They offer online classes and challenge exams to earn credits. They accept credits from CLEP exams but do not offer materials to prepare for CLEP exams. The college board (administrator of CLEP exams) offer study guides as do other publishers like REA to prepare for CLEP exams. Excelsior offers exam content guides to prepare for the nursing challenge exams and UExcel exams offered by Excelsior College.
TCN is nothing but a publisher of expensive study guides. They are not a school. They are not affiliated with Excelsior (no matter what TCN reps claim). They cannot offer college credit or degrees. They offer (very expensive) study guides. They are not accredited as they are not a school.
Do you know if the tests you are taking with college network at clep exams?

To take a clep exam google CLEP and check for locations to test, find one close to you and call or check their website for the CLEP or dSST exams they test for - some places don't test for all the exams listed. They have a form you fill out to register for the exam. On CLEPs site and DSSTs you can get a syllabus for the exam with recommended textbooks and the areas covered. Get your books from amazon, they don't have to be new! I took world religions and life span development and used a publisher called studygroup101 so I didn't buy books for those two, I got older books for intro to psych and sociology and I didn't really use any books for analyizing literature. I took the english through uexcel which is Excelsiors version of clep. You don't need TCN. You can take as many CLEP or DSST exams as you want. Excelsior has a list of exams it accepts, I just googled Excelsior CLEP.
