IS BSN way harder than Practical Nursing?

Hi everyone!

I am doing my adult high school in Toronto at the moment and I want to pursue nursing after but I am so confused between practical nursing and bachelor of nursing. I prefer BSN but I am afraid thinking how hard that would be .

And also what elective courses do I need to take for BSN?

Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks

Practical Nurse - 2 year program in college.

Bscn - 4 years. More opportunities in terms of job.

Do 4 years BsCN. Trust me, it’s worth it at the end. I am a practical nurse and I wish i went through the 4 years route and I am working on getting RN. Either way both programs are tough.

If you are talking about elective courses for high school... take the easiest courses to have high marks. Make sure you take the required sciences and math to satisfy the admission. Check ryerson, York university, mcmaster.

The BScN is easier. Now this is coming from a person who did the RPN first so I had a lot of knowledge and a bit of experience before entering the BScN program. The RPN program is incredibly dense and very stressful. I started the program with about 160 people and finished with 45, I started the BScN program with 120 people and finished with about 110.

Often it's not the course work that is hard. It's the clinical hours. That's when many find they are not cut out for nursing or dealing with patient's families.

I completed both the RPN and RN program. They are both hard in their own way to be honest, I would not be able to say that one was easier than the other. On the flip side, I must say that I struggled as an RPN in terms of employment. I was hired at a LTC facility straight out of my final placement and that was where I was stuck only having LTC experience. I was very limited, and could not land a job outside of that speciality. After 1 year as an RPN, I was back in school completing my RN because that was the goal to begin with. I've had so many doors open for me once I became an RN, in different fields of nursing and it made those 3 years so worth it.

I agree.

I did the RPN Fulltime then upgraded into BScN Parttime and it took so long. At the end, I wish I did the 4 year BScN straight.

@Chime dolma Depending on the university you are going into, check if their BScN prerequisites needed your English, Chemistry, Biology & Mathematics a College/ University level.
