I just took the TEAS exam today to get into Bristol Community College's nursing program. I think I totally bombed it. I don't understand the scoring. I got a 77.7 and the national average is 74.4 and then is says 75.4 for the program average on the results. You need to get at least a 70 for the requirement to get in. I have a 3.97 GPA. I studied hard for this exam but my newborn was up all night and I am very very sick with a sinus infection. Also, they asked 1 anatomy question. All the rest were about rocks and volcanos. Did I totally bomb this? If anyone can give me an honest opinion I would really appreciate it.

The school I want to get into (SJSU) has a minimum TEAS score of 75, so it sounds like you're fine.

well, a lot of schools have a "minimum" score like one of the schools I applied had a minimum of 75% required, but I had a 4.0 and a 89.5% on my Teas and I didn't get in. So you might want to find out if they go by a point system or anything because if they do you will probably want to retake it.

Ask if your school will let you re-take the TEAS test. To be honest, if I was in your position I would take the test one more time just for some self reassurance.

I cant believe they denied you!!! Its things like this that upsets me. If a 4.0 student with awesome test scores gets denied, where does that leave everyone else?! Hardly seems fair... I guess this is why I am doing LPN and then bridging. As far as 77% I would check with your school. It wouldnt hurt to retake it to try to at least be in the 80% range, since this might improve your chances. Good Luck!
I totally agree. This is unfair. I would've contacted the Nursing department at this school and I would've asked why I didn't get in. Which school was this by the way?
its a school in California..... they do their scoring based on points and when I applied I had 79 points and the last person admitted has 86. Pretty much a 4.0, 95+ on the Teas, work exp, foreign language, economic disadvantage etc. This school just recently switched from a 3 yr bachelors to a 2 yr bachelors so they only took 40 students last semester instead of 60...which would mean that a lot more people would have applied this time around... but I mean seriously 4.0 and a 89.5 isnt good enough?! Oh well, I got into a better school in cali anyways, so sucks to be them because they just lost a great student. :) I mean not all schools work the same, some might just be a lottery and then only the minimum score would be required so I would find out from the schools that you are interested in.

I'm sure your score of 77.7 is fine but if you feel like you could have done better or that you won't be happy with your score unless you retake the exam then ask your school about scheduling a retake for the exam. What I liked about my school RIC (Rhode Island College) is that you take the TEAS test after you get into the program, which is nice for showing where you are in comparison to your classmates but doesn't base your admission into the program upon the test results (only upon your grades and GPA.) I don't know how much the scores really mean in the long run though, my programs average was an 79 or 80 in Math and 80 or 81 in Reading and I got an 88 in Math and a 99 in Reading but I don't think it has put me ahead of any of my classmates. So basically, unless your really upset about the test results then I wouldn't bother retaking it but if it really bothers you then you can try to retake it.

Thanks everyone! I can only re-take it every 90 days-which would be too late for the deadline of Feb. 1st. Otherwise, I would definitly re-take it. I scored 99 in reading, 95 in english, 55 in math and 70 in science. I did make above the national average for all sections. I would have done better in math but I ran out of time. I should have just rescheduled it but you have to pay for it even if you reschedule with plenty of notice. I don't understand the science portion. If you are taking this test to get into nursing, you would think they would have more science questions pertaining to the body-not rocks and ecology. I don't understand these schools and how they determine who gets in. I know someone who had almost perfect scores and didn't get in for like 3 years. I also know a few people who got accepted right away and didn't even finish all the pre-req's and an average GPA.
