Is it appropriate to contact the nurse manager?

I am trying to figure out the etiquette as far as contacting the nurse manager and/or HR after an interview. I am a new grad RN, and have been looking for a job for a little over 6 months now. I had an interview last week for a unit that I really want to work on (it's trauma, which is my ultimate goal). I thought it went really well, and promptly sent a thank you note to both HR and the nurse manager that I had met with.

I had another interview last week for a position on an acute rehab (at a different hospital). I know this is also a great opportunity for a new grad. Needless to say, they offered me a position on the spot. The pay is not great, it's far from where I live, and it's only part time (the other job is 30 mins closer, pays more, and is full time), but I don't think it would be smart to turn down any opportunity after searching for 6 months.

So, my question is...is it appropriate the contact HR or the nurse manager from the trauma unit to inquire about the status of the position that I interviewed for? Or should I wait for them to contact me? If I do, should I tell them about the other job offer? Maybe that would be too pushy?

Any feedback would be much appreciated :)

Although I do not have experience as a nurse manager I was management in the business world for a decade or so before changing careers. Interviewed and hired a lot of people. For my two cents definitely call to follow up if it has been a week, ask if the position has been filled, but I wouldn't bring up another job offer. Even if they are still considering you that won't sway them to hurry up and give you an offer and it may be a turn off if they feel you are trying to pressure them.

The UNC app closed at 0000 on Feb 27th, and I have emailed 7 RN managers so far (brief emails introducing myself and a sentence or two on my interest in the floor along with my resume attached and a link to my LinkedIn profile). Is this too much too soon or ?

I have heard back from 1 RN manager the day I emailed her (2 days ago), and I thanked her for her reply and answered her questions, but I have not heard back since.

Take what you can get! I Don't know how likely a trauma unit would hire a new grad unless its for a special new grad program. Good luck with your search
