It seems as though everyone is barely passing...
I don't see how it can be that hard?! I don't wanna mess up my GPA either because I got plans for after nursing school.
In my BSN program, 74 or above is passing (no rounding). As a rule, you are only allowed to (fail and) retake one core nursing course. You are dismissed from the program the second time you fail a nursing core course. Like some other posters have said, we also have many people who hover around the 74 passing average. Many of my classmates actually have made all C's in nursing classes so far. Keep in mind though...As long as you pass, you progress in the program! I feel that I have done very well in nursing school so far. I am almost finished with my 3rd semester (of 5) of nursing classes. For this semester, I currently have an A in Med-Surg I, a B (an 89.. so close!) in Mental Health, and an A in Nursing Research. As for classes I have already completed.. I made an A in 5 nursing classes so far (intro to nursing, health assessment, pathophysiology, pharmacology, & nursing stats) and a B (an 88. Boo!) in Basic Nursing Care. With planning and effort, it is possible to make good grades in nursing school! Don't dwell on it however... Just do your best and keep the end result in sight... Being a nurse!! Best of luck!
I am someone who is doing generally well in nursing school. With one very small (one unit) exception, all of my postgraduate coursework has been 4.0 until I got into nursing school. Since I got into nursing school, my GPA has been generally good, I have been holding a B average throughout the entire program. In my current cohort, most of my classmates are doing generally as well, some are struggling to maintain a 75%, the minimum required to pass the course and progress in the program. Also in this program, there is no rounding up. If you fail to get a passing grade by 1 point, you fail the course.
My previous cohort was essentially the same, most were getting high C's and B's throughout their program and they are getting ready to graduate in a few weeks. I do not think that there is anyone in either cohort of mine that that has a 4.0 GPA during nursing school.
I dont have a 4.0, but I have been doing well. I am in a BSN program. My third semester is in progress so I haven't gotten my official grades for this semester yet, but I have two A's and one B (an 89... Lets hope I can make that another A with the final!). I have completed 6 nursing classes. I made 5 A's and 1 B. The B I made was an 88 (so frustrating!) and it was in Basic Nursing Care. Not to make excuses, but that class "had issues". For instance, questions would show up on exams that were not in the textbook or from lecture, yet we were told that "we should know it anyways." I understood that yes, we should know that, but from who? What book? Etc. I just did the best I could with the class and that ended up being an 88. I made an A in intro to nursing, health assessment, patho, pharm, and nursing stats.
On the go mommy over here finishing up sophomore year in BSN program. Had 4.0 in prereqs in community college. Keeping around 3.8 now. Daycare? What's that? I'm somehow keeping it all together with children running and screaming around the house.
It can be done, you just need to be good at it and really want it.
Our graduating class started off around 140 and every semester we lose between 5 and 10 people. The average graduating class has around 90-100 students when it's all said and done. In my case, my age is an advantage. No one is inviting me to frat parties.
For those of you with 4.0 in nursing school, is it a BSN program? And, what is your lowest A?At my school, we have a 7 point scale. 77 is passing - 76.5 you fail. It's TOUGH!
Mine is a BSN program that uses a point scale. The grading is very strict, and makes it impossible to get a 4.0, which is 99-100%. The only way to get a 4.0 is to get 100% on every single exam in every single class. You can't get anything wrong, ever. I can't help but smile when I read how "hard" other nursing programs grade; ya'll don't know anything about hard grading!

Yikes. How does that work? Is any grade less than 99-100% considered a B or lower? If we get an A we get a 4.0. Doesn't matter if the A was a 92 or a 100.
Anything less than an 80 is failing in my program. I just finished the semester with a 4.0...woop! Amazing to me that I'm making better grades consistently in ns than I did in prereqs. Lol
I am doing well :) I am finishing up my second semseter of NS and so far have a 4.0. I am borderline in med-surg with a 92, so hopefully I can do well on my final. But like others said, if you can't apply the knowledge, it is useless to have it. I have a friend who is failing. She is very smart, but just doesn't apply information well. Thats the big deal in NS.
Some people are on the 6 point scale. ANY little thing can screw you up on that scale. I'm sitting at the mid C range, praying I get B's in both of my classes. I however am much much better at skills than I am with testing in general. My name was passed to an ER director in the area, so I may get some sort of ED tech job. Which I'm stoked about. I also run EMS. My dad keeps telling me grades aren't everything. I will re-evaluate study habits in the Fall.
