IRSC Fall 2014 Hopefuls!

Published

Hey everyone! I know this is super early to be talking about the fall semester but I just got my denial letter for the Spring 2014 semester so I wanted to make this group for anyone that's applying or didn't make it in like me. I got a 109 score on my NLN exam which makes my total points for program 130. I took A&P I & Micro which accounts for my points. I would like to retake the NLN in 6 months & hopefully I can do much better. I'm currently enrolled in A&P II & plan on just studying my butt off for the nln in the process. Classes I have left before I'm done with all my "pre-requisites" are A&P II (which I'm currently in), Chemistry, and Nutrition. (which I plan on taking those in spring/summer). Maybe we can get a study group together eventually if anyone is interested! Best of luck to everyone! :)

I got them when I was really young and apparently they've gone up a whole lot. My mom said she paid almost nothing back then.

Yeah I also got mine really young

I had the 2 MMRs done in like '97 and then the Hep B I also had young

I'll just have to get the Hep B antibody surface test, which I found out is just blood work :arghh:

I also heard the Tdap hurts really bad because it's a booster :(….poor us

I'm trying to get them done at the health department, and since I live with my dad and he makes too much for sliding scale, but since i am 18 and he supports me fully i think they still take my work information which means I might qualify for like 80% off. so possibly yay me:D Thats how it was at another place with sliding scale medical fees

Well I called my insurance company before I made my appts to see what they would cover

Apparently, if you tell the doctor to code it as "routine" it'll be cheaper (but all the vaccines go by your age and what the CDC schedule recommends. To sum it up, the CDC says we need Hep B, and Tdap if we're going to be in a health care setting for occupation, which means it should be covered)

Also, since I'm 18 and July 28th is after my 19th birthday (then i'll be considered an adult according to my insurance policy) the lady recommended that I do as much as I can before my 19th birthday because I'll be 100% covered until then. After my 19th birthday I'll only be 70% covered after the deductible.

Not sure if that helps or makes sense with all the rambling, but either way its a lot cheaper before you turn 19! Lol

Any idea when the previous semester's alternates starting getting accepted? I keep checking my rivermail but no change :(

I don't know, I would assume it would be throughout. You know a couple people probably failed the drug test (it was 4/20 the day before they were due :p) and I counted 15 people who did not show up to the ADN meeting. there will be people that will run out of time on vaccines or procrastinate or change situations, or have to move, so im sure most of the alternates will get in :) But check that link, that was the forum for last semester's nursing, which should have more info on alternates

I'm scared :arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh:

So I'm a little confused about the Hepatitis shots. I had all 3 of them when I was a baby but never the surface antibody test. It says to get it 1-2 months after 3rd dosage so does that mean I'd have to get another hep B shot before getting the surface antibody test ?

No, you can't get it sooner. So if you were to get vaccinated now, you would still have to sign the waiver because it would be too soon for the antibody test.

I already had the hep vaccine as a baby so I couldn't go back now & just have the surface antibody test done ?

@sonny

That's what I'm doing

Since I had all 3 vaccines when I was a baby, I'm just getting the blood work done for the antibody surface test

Found out i have all my shots up to date so no needles for me:D Still probably have to do the anttibody surface test and TB skin test
