I am about to start a bsn program at UTA and have heard that an ipad is a great thing to use for studying. I am wondering for anyone who does use an ipad to study and read, have you had problems with running out of space? I'm debating buying the 16gb or 32gb.

I have an ipad, love it to look around the internet but for school work nope. You can't easily use blackboard with it. I don't know if you can get a writting app on Ipad since you'll be doing a lot of papers. Also, so you can't get the right software to view the online lectures. I would seriously go with a laptop instead.

I have something similar to an Ipad(Ipad is great) because the cost of books is so outrageous so I get most for free. The Ebook version of most books is usually quite a bit cheaper though if you are inclined to pay. You can get coupons for most nursing textbook websites as well like lippincott, FA Davis, Elsevier, etc. It is almost always cheaper to order your books yourself in my experience and then you don't have to carry anything when you got 5 books on an ipad.

I use mine quite a bit.
For class I convert the powerpoints to PDF and use an app called notability to annotate them and sync them with my lecture recording. I usually print them out right before an exam and then move everything from that unit off of my iPad into Dropbox afterwards to save memory. I also use it to get most of my stuff on Angel. We use our publisher!a website a lot but I can't do most of the assignments on my iPad because of the lack of Flash. Definitely the biggest bummer.
During clinicals I use it as a quick drug reference (micromedex) and to look other things up size we don't have Internet access on the hospital computers. Most of my quick stuff is done on my phone, but when I'm actually sitting down and spending a while researching I pull it out. I also get a head start on my clinical paperwork during downtime with my wireless keyboard.
I'll probably buy the e-version of a couple of my textbooks before next semester. I really enjoy having hard copies of everything but the way our program is laid our we use most of our books in every unit and I'm sick of that chaos.
So overall I'd recommend it as long as you also have a "real" computer for Flash and big typing kinds of things!
Thanks so much! So for you two that have do use it for school and books, do you have the 16gb?

I have a 32 gb and have found that my iPad is my best friend. We are required to get online textbooks through elsevier and when I started my program they only support apple products. Now they supper almost any tablet. I also use micromedex. I love it and you can find a bunch of free apps!! I have a sticky notes app that I keep my to do lists on and I have all of my important events in the planner. I also love how my iPhone,iPad, and MacBook Pro all sync.. So all of my stuff is on all three devices. Very handy!! A plus is also having my music for studying or drowning out people during studying or lunch!
Support. Not supper. Haha. I must be starving.. Typical nursing student you could say.
