Invitation letter from UT Houston???

Published

Hi everybody,

I'm new in this forum, and I already love it. :)

I hope somebody can help me with this question regarding UT. I received an invitation letter, where I'm applying for the BSN program in the Fall 2005.

Has anybody else here on this board already underwent the questionnaire? What can I expect? It's really freaking me out, because they are also mentioning a writing sample at the time of the interview

How can I prepare myself?

Thank you

Ginger

No, I have yet to purchase my books, but I will begin to do that very shortly. As far as registering is concerned, what does the schedule look like and is almost everyone's the same?

It seems to me that everybody's schedule is the same thing. Because whenever I registered for each class we have to take there is only one to chose from. In other words, its not like you can just pick a more convienient time for any one class, because you only have one option. So knowing that, its not like registering early would have any benefits.

From my understanding we all have the same classes and professors, with the exception of Lab instructors, which may differ.

As far as our schedules go it's basically like this for the week:

Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

PM me if you have any more specific questions about our schedule.

Hope that helped!

Hey everyone!

I finished FOCUS last Friday and was really impressed with the professors. The two weeks consisted mainly of introduction to faculty and staff, skills labs, and team-building skills. We were able to learn straight and indwelling foley technique and NGT insertion, irrigation, and removal. We also learned bed baths and unoccupied and occupied bed making. If we successfully "checked off" on all of these skills, we don't have to attend the skills lab for Care 1 in the fall!

Overall, it was pretty intense! The skills test for Foleys was really nervewracking because you had to use sterile technique and hold a conversation with the manekin! I passed, thank God, but it really gave me an idea of how things are going to be when we start. The professors are extremely supportive and helpful, but their expectations are very high. Not that that's a bad thing, but I'm definitely certain now that when we graduate, we will be among the best of the best! I'm so excited to get started!

Here's a few tips that I picked up. Regarding books, get the latest editions (even if it says otherwise on the list). When you get them, start reading the Nursing Process (Ch. 14-19) in the Fundamentals book and read Ch.2 in the Research book. Also, after registering, go to the main building and get your ID badges on the 22nd floor. Make sure that the brusar gives you a blue fall sticker, not a summer sticker. That's all I can think of at the moment, but let me know if there's any other questions. Can't wait to meet ya'll at orientation!
