Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

We'd appreciate any info you have.

Hiya Lentil

I know nothing of UNE other than that the students I have met while they were doing clinicals seem awesome to me, very thorough and willing, "smaht" too.

If your dau should end up in Maine drop me a private message, maybe I can be tour guide for her! I'm about half an hour from the school.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info and the offer. Funny thing, she came home from work, opened her mail, and found her acceptance from UNE. Needless to say, she's thrilled! She received a hefty scholarship, but the tuition is still pretty steep.

Where do you work? Perhaps, she'll contact you and take you up on that tour.

Thank you,

Susan and Jill

Hi, my name is Mel and graduated May 2003. I believe it was the Grateful Dead that said "What a long strange trip it's been". Well it certainly has been that way for me. It's been quite a ride. Looking back I've seen alot of personal growth which I cling to when I look around and see how much I still have to learn.

My career goal is to one day get into OR nursing. The problem is that they need nurses with scrubbing and circulating experience before they'll hire. It's a catch 22 because in order to get experience you have to get hired, but you can't get hired without experience!! Does anyone know of any programs where you can get training for OR nursing?

There are or internships even for new nurses all over. Dartmouth Hitchcock in Lebanon,NH just advertised one. Try doing a web search of all the hospitals you are willing to travel to. Also go to career fairs and open houses, and network. Conferences and seminars are great for learning and scmoozing. You will find what you seek!

Hi all. I used to live in Maine, but moved 14 years ago, because of my husband's job. I loved living there and can't wait to go back. All of our family (his and mine) is in New England, including Maine. I worked at MMC for 12 years and loved it. I don't know what it's like now though. I'm sorry to hear that the Mercy Hospital school is closed. They sure put out a good nurse. We hope to retire to Maine (or at least NH or VT). The cold can't scare me away! Um, would someone please send me a big nose full of salt air? I really miss the coast! Gayle, did you happen to work in Skowhegan? My sister used to work there.

just saying hello from maine. plan on becomeing a cna (not sure where to get the training - probably portland adult ed) then going to behavioral health at smcc.
