Introductions

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

I'd like to see the Kansas threads as active as possible for as long as possible : ) My brief intro:

I entered the program in the late 70's as an adult learner with 2 small children and a failing marriage. I took boards the last time they gave the segmented version (seems it was 6 or 7 segments, each scored separately, but failing one segment meant sitting for the entire exam again) - 2 days on paper.

My primary - and favorite - background is in ER mgmnt. Have also managed a hospice (not my cup of tea, but a great learning experience), an ICU (2 years was enough), and a small Red Cross donor express (never again).

Now I'm administrator of a clinic in an occupational / industrial setting. Always thought occ nsg was a sell-out or a good place for someone with marginal skills until I came here. It's a great learning experience, never a dull moment, and an opportunity to make a difference - without as many of the usual risks (e.g. body fluids and other exposure to disease, violent pts, back injury, etc).

Keep up the good work, everyone...

And always remember... Have FUN - whatever you do!

take care,

nan

Hello everyone. I'm currently an LPN student at Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia and due to graduate December 19th of this year. I also take pre-req classes at Allen County Community College in Burlingame and work weekends at a local long-term care facility. I live in Topeka, so I drive quite a bit.

I'm a Mom and Grandmom and am fortunate to have wonderful family support while I'm going to school.

After I finish up at ACCC, I'm considering Baker University School of Nursing at Stormont here in Topeka. Even though it's a beautiful drive to Emporia, it's worn thin after 9 months.

I also act as one of the Volunteer Coordiators for one of two Native American Indian worship groups at the Topeka Correctional Facility and founded a non-profit organization that supports the religious rights of Native American Indian inmates nationwide. We also supply religious materials all over the country to Native American Indian inmates.

I'm married to a minister who is a retired pastor and currently a Chaplain at an alcohol and substance abuse treatment center.

Guess that's about it. I'm usually more long-winded, but it's been a long day!

Any questions, just ask!

Peace,

Awi

Hello everyone. I accepted a 13 week assignment in Garden City today. I live in Fort Smith, AR. This is my first travel assignment. I have 10 yrs. experience in psych nursing. Well I have had many experiences, and let me just say a colorful childhood, but I am nervous as can be. If any of you out there live in that part of Kansas give me a yell, and let me know what that area is like. I leave Saturday morning. I will be checking the posts.

Take care, irnpsych

Specializes in LTC.

I'm an LPN student going to school in McPherson. It's really busy and intense, and sometimes I wonder if I'll know my own name by the time I'm done in May. My 40th birthday will be in a few weeks. I would like to be a RN someday, but my family can't handle me going to school fulltime another year right now.

What about those distance LPN-to-RN programs (such as Rue and Excelsior). Does Kansas accept them? How do-able are they?

I'm from Washington State but have lived in Kansas City for about 4 years. I'm a nursing student at KCKCC.

Glad to be here!:)

Specializes in Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Call Center RN.

Welcome aboard Michael. I'm in nursing school at KCKCC too! Where are you in the program?

Just getting started - taking a summer class (Health assess in Nursing) right now. Start Nursing in August.

I just moved here. :) Well, I'm actually starting work in Nebraska first, but as soon as my Visascreen goes through (I'm Canadian) then to Wichita I go. :) It's an awesome little state, I love it, though MUCH warmer than where I'm from! :chuckle

I'm in the afternoon class. I assume you are in the morning class since I know both of the guys in my class. That means I am in the class right next door to you, in the articulation class from 9:30 till 12noon. I'm getting nervous about the assessment final. What about you?

I'm in Hillsboro, about 50 miles north of Wichita.
