How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.
I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Hi Ashley! Sound like a plan! How are you enjoying your school and work?
Hi. I'm Ashley. I'm 17. Right now i'm still finishing up highschool at a vocational school in a medical program. I'm currently a STNA and scheduled to attend lpn school next year then moving on from there to complete my RN.
When is your first day of class and what classes are you taking this term? I am only taking med-surg this time. It is 3 hours long 4 days per week for 6 weeks. Then we start clinicals. Those are 4 hours long 4 days per week for 7 weeks. Last semester was my first actual nursing class. It was Fundamentals and I took it along with Chem I and World Literature.
Hey Pammie:
This is the first semester, it is Fundamentals and clinicals are overviews. . .med/surg mainly plus a little bit of everything else. Classes start January 31. 3 days a week, 2 of those are 8 hour days and one 4 hour day. . .

We start classes on Jan. 6th. Sounds like you have been busy, too! I have LOVED school, all of it (except chemstry and statistics,) but by the time I'd done 70 hours of pre-requisites, I was SOOO ready to get into the "real" stuff. I can imagine you feel the same way. I think 18 hours is about what we lack here, too, toward the BSN, but it is divided into two semesters.
The 4 year college in our area has a nursing program with the RN-BSN, but it is under the gun right now. THe pass rate on their boards is 22%. Don't want to fool with that.
We have friends from Memphis as well as all over the southeast, too. My oldest son lived in the Chicago area when in the Navy. He attended bootcamp there and then spent 18 months of Electronics Training at school in Chicago. He really liked it, especially the snow. I've been to Chicago about 3 times. My oldest child, a daughter, lived in Waukesha, Wisconsin for a year while in school at New Tribes Missions.
Pharmacology is so interesting. I loved it, but it was much more difficult than the Fundamentals, to me. There are so many, many drugs within each category and having to learn the actions, adverse reactions, interactions, nursing implications, ect. was, well....confusing, to say the least; especially when you are trying to cram all of that info into 4 weeks. I put all that info on index cards and kept them with me ALWAYS. Every spare moment I had, I practiced them. The hardest part for me was separating drug cautions from adverse reactions and which of those 2 needed to be included in the nursing implications. BUt overall, it was really interesting.
I know that I want to get my first experiences in critical care nursing. After that, I want to branch into hospice and palliative care. I also hope to be able to do regular short term mission work. One other area that I am very interested in is parrish/congregational nursing. You are right...so many fields to choose from.
