I don't know if you all do intros here, but I will just in case. I am Laura, 21 married to a US Navy Seabee David, and we have a 14 month old baby girl Elizabeth. I am taking an ADN program for now, and plan on eventually getting my masters/doctorate--possibly switching over to MD. Ummm, I start clinicals in January and my husband deploys to Kuwait around the same time so I'll have my hands full. I like to fly airplanes, swim, and spend time with my little girl.

Question for you mommies out there: My school only allows 8 physical hours of school to be missed per semester or you get kicked outta the program. This equates to one clinical day and half a lecture day. I think that is asking too much:uhoh3: , but anyways. How do you do it? I think it is inevitable that Elizabeth will at some point catch a cold and be unable to attend daycare. I don't know where in the world she will go then! My husband will be deployed, no family around here, my friends work.. Ugh!!

Yes, we do intros here, there is a whole thread just for that purpose caled introductions under the main forums tab I think.

Anyway, I am a single mom too and my kids rarely get sick, so I am blessed that way. I do have a neighbor though that used to be in the nursing program with me that will watch my kids in a pinch. So grateful to her.

We also have this babysitter service here that sends sitters to your house if you pay a yearly registration fee and the per hour rate. It gets expensive especially if you ask for them to come last minute.

I really don't have any other advice.

I don't have my own children, but have been "mommy" to a couple. This was all during HS and I could not even begin to imagine NS with children. I'll have to hand to all of you who manage NS and children, I know I'm not made for it!

I second that, my really close friend I made this semester has 3- 11,9, and 3. I don't know how she studies and she's really close to not making it out of this semester. I'm rooting for her because she would make a really good nurse! My other friend had to bring her nephew to a test review the other day....he looks at all these women and me....then walks over and asks if he could sit next to me! I say ok, but I felt like I had to try to keep him a little quiet as he started playing with a few toys....

Welcome! I have a son and our school allows you to miss 10% so it equates to about 2 days.

I have missed more but it depends on the situation - I missed several days when my mother passed away but that was excused however I did get a write up for it in my file (yeah that was interesting)...I told my dad to tell me in advance before he dies so I can make sure its not a clinical weekend!

But for child being sick or self, I haven't had any problems so far, my son is 13 months old. Knock on wood my Hubby is usually available (I do nights/weekends school).

Maybe set up a backup sitter? Start interviewing some now?
