Interviewer asked about my GPA

Nurses New Nurse

I had an interview last week for an ER position at my first choice hospital and about half way through the interview, the nurse manager asked what my GPA was. It made me pause for a second because I thought no one cared about that outside of school. I told her the number and then she went on to ask me more questions.

Has anyone else been asked their GPA during an interview? I thought it was kind of weird! I always tried to make the best grades I could during school and now I'm glad I did.

BTW, I got the job!!! :nurse: I beat out 4 other people and I almost started crying when they called me with the job offer. I was in the ER during my preceptorship and I LOVE it.

sure, some areas still have shortages and some areas have schools pumping out nursing grads like crazy.

I was just trying to say that in areas where there's a glut, the hospitals tend to rely on GPAs. So it matters in some places, not all, but some.:wink2:

So, Proverbs 16:3, what is the nurse to patient ratios where you are? ( just curious )Where I am days takes 6-7 to one nurse, pm shift takes the same and us on nights take 8-10. CNAs on day and pm take 9 pts or 8 if they are lucky, and on nights we get 15 to 1 CNA. Taking 10 pts is very rare though and the hospital tries to get more staffing. If we take 10 we get extra CNAs.

WOW-10 patients per nurse. I used to think 5-7 patients per nurse at night was too much!

I should stress the 10 pts only happens maybe 2-3 times a year, but it is memorable. We get extra CNAs too. Hospital does offer RNs bonus of extra $60.00 for each 4 hours on those nights so that hopfully more will pick up and we are not so short. Hospital really does try hard. This last time we were short on nights they offered $90.00 for each 4 hours and by the time night shift came around we were no longer short, I only had 7 pts that night.
