INTERVIEW TROUBLE

What do i say while waiting to do the other interviews to the interviewer. How do i decline an offer nicely? What if they offer a job on the spot. I am going crazy but i am thankful for the opportunities. Thanks for any replies

You really don't have to accept any offer right away. I also think it is best to think about all of your options before making your decision. You have to make sure that you will be happy with whatever decision you will make. To answer your questions, I will respond like this:

1) While waiting for other interviews, say: "I would really love to join your team. It has been my dream to become an ER nurse someday. However, I usually give it a day or so to think about accepting any job offer. Would you be willing to wait for my decision? I will call you tomorrow at 3 pm to let you know. I would really appreciate it."

2) To decline an offer, say: "Thank you very much for this wonderful opportunity. However, this position does not meet my career goals at this time. I will contact you in the future, if there are other positions in your facility that would meet my needs. Again, thank you very much!"

Thank you for the grear advice, CocoaLoverFNP. This was exactly what i was looking for. I just didnt know how to word it correctly. What a relief, i feel less anxious already!

I have similar credentials as you.. I also have 2.5 yrs exp working as a LPN, and I'm a recent new grad RN. I live in NY though.. the job market here isn't that great..Esp for New Grads and ASN RNs.

I would try to make a effort to attend all the interviews, perhaps ask for a reschedule. Remember, you are only interviewing for a position. You haven't been offered one yet. If they do offer you a position on the spot, the comment before me has good advice. Inform them you will get back to them the next day with your decision.

Thanks for the advice Michelle, the job market here isnt that bad. Alot of new grads are getting hired like crazy and they definitely hire you when your enrolled in a BSN program.

That is awesome! First of all ENJOY that you have lots of choices... And remember it is your career and you are not obligated to accept an offer if you do not feel it is quite right! If you want in the ER or OR, go for it! I was trying to wait out for a dream job in the ER but applied and interviewed the same afternoon in a snf/rehab facility because I needed to work somewhere and was losing hope of getting into the ER. Upon concluding the interview at the snf facility I was offered a charge nurse position on the spot - a double red flag as I am an inexperienced new grad and they had obviously not checked my references. Being desperate I accepted and let me say, with the 4 days of orientation I had if it would not have been for the wonderful LPN's and CNA's I had I would have drowned! After 2 rough weeks I had an exceptionally terrible day where everything was just a train wreck the whole shift, but lo and behold that afternoon I got the call and I scored the interview in the ED and got the job the following week. I still work PRN at the snf, but getting the job in the ED was truly a dream come true!

So my advice would be to do what peaks your interest and ignites your passion as a nurse! But why not do all the interviews as you may get into the unit and it surprise you that you like it! Good luck!

Wow i know u were freaking out with the charge nurse postion,but at least you tried it. I bet you was running to the ED interview! i successfully went to all interviews and some places were just horrible and the managers were telling me how crappy the unit was, BUT they are moving towards change and they dont have a great team yet so they are looking to change that. Too many red flags for me. I dont mind change,but i want to come on to a unit that already has it some what together. They even told me i will get off around 9 on a good day on a 7a-7p shift. Oh and the ratio is 6:1 and i wont get help especially from aides. THANKS FOR THE WARNING! Thankfully i was offered the postion for Surgery with only a 2:1 ration lol. I am super happy to be where i want to be and to be a new grad with my dream job!
