Just to add. I highly recommend University Hospital, but all the other locations are great in their own ways! I just wouldn't recommend St Mary's, but it could be a great place for u and not for me. Good luck, any questions welcomed!

*long story*Well I had tons of interviews and I am proud to say I hit the jackpot and found home! There are 3 groups of hospitals Norton, Baptist and Kentucky One Health. Baptist- They are a standard hospital and I never had an interview with them and I applied there alot. I heard they are kinda stuck up and rude. I also heard they have a lot of older nurses who are mean. They don't hire a lot of new grads either. Nortons- Standard hospital and they also have a children's hospital called Kosairs, which is a great place to work. I like Nortons. I haven't heard anything bad about them from other nurses. I had an interview there and it went great, but I got a bad vibe since I was meeting with a recruiter and not a nurse manager. Big turn off for me. She didn't know anything about nursing and couldn't even answer any questions I had about the units or the aquity. Kentucky one health- this company is the umbrella over Jewish, St Mary's and University Hospital. I had an interview at all locations and everyone was nice and honest. Which helped me make the right decision. They weren't trying to sell me lies. They allowed me to choice a place based off of what is really going on, on the units. So, I'll break it down by each hospital. 1) Jewish- great place, specializes in cardiac, lung and neuro. Most units have private rooms. During my interview on one of the floors I was told the ratio is 5-6 patients per nurse. Mixed aquity and short staffed most days, never will leave on time. Lastly scheduling is an issue when it comes to working days you want. They base off of needs. The good news I got was the do intensive 12 week training to prepare you, with tons of certifications and classes. I would've choose to work there but they are trying to make changes and I need a schedule that allows me to choose, since I just had a baby. That place was too demanding. St Mary's- a big hell naw for me. I felt like i was pulling up to a white cement jail house. Parking is horrible and The interviewer was late and didn't even say hi or introduce herself. They were so short handed, she had to step out for 10 mins to assist patients. Techs/aids told me not to work there during my interview. Ratio is the same as jewish. They were very outdated but they are remolding now. University Hospital- is the place I work and I have no regrets. It is the only level 1 trauma center in KY and burn unit. They also specialize in high risk obstrectics. They are a academic hospital which means they are making changes everyday to make care easier and better for patients and staff. It's a learning environment and the MDs and nurses all take their time to talk to u and help you learn. I was surprised to see how nice the MDs are cuz that is rare. If you don't know something they stop what they are doing to help even the nurses. Great team work. All units are updated and we scan medications and electronic charting. This is the place were we get a lot of emergencies and action. My unit has private rooms and ratio is 3-4 patients per nurse. And Imy fresh out of orientation and I have been leaving on time everyday and If I am behind other nurses help me out. I hope this was very helpful. It is a lot but u have to decide for yourself. My needs are different than yours! Try taking a tour of the hospitals and look on their websites.

Oh and my starting pay was $22.81. Not exactly what i wanted, but i cant have my cake and eat it too!

*UPDATE* i successfully went to all interviews and some places were just horrible and the managers were telling me how crappy the unit was, BUT they are moving towards change and they dont have a great team yet so they are looking to change that. Too many red flags for me. I dont mind change,but i want to come on to a unit that already has it some what together. They even told me i will get off around 9 on a good day on a 7a-7p shift. Oh and the ratio is 6:1 and i wont get help especially from aides. THANKS FOR THE WARNING! Thankfully i was offered the postion for Surgery with only a 2:1 ration lol. I am super happy to be where i want to be and to be a new grad with my dream job!

Thanks for the advice Michelle, the job market here isnt that bad. Alot of new grads are getting hired like crazy and they definitely hire you when your enrolled in a BSN program.

Thanks guy in babyland and Congrats on landing the job, big accomplishment! Im so jelly i wish i was there, dream job I heard about nurse residency but i dont know if hospitals here do that. I just want to be well prepared before actually being on my own, its scary! Some places told me they have 3,6,9,and 12 month training depending on the specialty. Im glad the pay is good, i currently make 24.50 so i should be around the same ballpark. How did you decide on what are to work. I dont know anything about Tele units, OR or neuro. I just know the basic med surge and reseaching isnt info, which i have done tons of.

Hey I have some interviews next week at different hospitals. I am a new RN grad with 3 years LPN experience. I have an interview at: Jewish neuro Nortons OR U of L 8 and 5 south, im guessing med surge St marys step down tele I live here but i dont know which hospitals offer the best for new grads, are the best place to work, the pay scale, weekends only schedule, benefits, pay premiums. Any information on the hospitals would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone, i am a new grad with 3 months work experience as an RN and 2 years as a LPN. Long story short ill be off maternity leave in 2 weeks and im desperate for a job in the hospital. So i applied to alot of postions, but i wasnt expecting to get calls the next day. I have 4 interviews in one week and i dont know how to handle this situation? I want to go to all interviews to avoid burning bridges. I really want the OR or ER postion. What do i say while waiting to do the other interviews to the interviewer. How do i decline an offer nicely? What if they offer a job on the spot. I am going crazy but i am thankful for the opportunities.
