Interview with Texas Children's Hospital

Published

i am an lvn that is very interested in getting into maternal/newborn and pediatric care. i am considering relocating, from the dallas area, to houston and i have applied to texas children's hospital. i just received a call back and they have scheduled a phone interview for later this week!!!:yeah:

i am interesting to know if there is anyone out there that has either worked with this network or has interviewed with them. i am interested in hearing about all experiences.

what can i expect from the interview? what is it like to work within this network? do they generally hire lvns? what is the salary like? are they dedicated to training and promoting advancement in the skills of their nurses? is it a good enviroment for a new nurse to learn and hone her skills? :confused:etc...

any information would be considered very helpful. thank you.:nurse:

This may not be helpful, as it was FOREVER ago... early 90's. But, my first job out of LVN school was at TCH. I was hired for the pulmonary/adolescent unit. I responded to an ad in the Houston Chronicle, had one interview, and got the job. After a week (or two?) in classroom orientation, I worked the floor with a preceptor for three months. I stayed there for nearly two years, until I decided to go to clinic nursing and move back to my home town.

It was a great learning experience, working in a big-city academic medical center. Good luck!

I thought they were magnet so I don't think they would hire LVNs. Maybe they're aren't. I interviewed with them and did a preceptorship there and it was very different to me compared to where I am now.

Did you get the job? And if so how do you like the hospital so far?

Im still looking for a job and would like an insiders point of view

No, I accepted an offer from another hospital before they made their decision.

Did they ever tell you how much they were going to pay you? i was thinking of applying there as well

No and they are on a hiring freeze from what I heard (who knows if that's true..it was either that or they aren't doing raises for a long time) because of all their expansion, running out of money with it, and the economy...and now the healthcare reform preparations.
