LVN really wanting to work in Newborn care, it is possible?
Nursing is my second career in the healthcare field. I was first a professional midwife for five years and attending home and birth center births. I have now graduated as an LVN and I am studying to get my RN and ASN. All I can find in Homehealth or office jobs. It there any hope of getting anything in Maternal/newborn nursing? This is where my strongest skills are - I am willing to relocate. Any suggestions?

Interview with Texas Children's Hospital
i am an lvn that is very interested in getting into maternal/newborn and pediatric care. i am considering relocating, from the dallas area, to houston and i have applied to texas children's hospital. i just received a call back and they have scheduled a phone interview for later this week!!! i am interesting to know if there is anyone out there that has either worked with this network or has interviewed with them. i am interested in hearing about all experiences. what can i expect from the interview? what is it like to work within this network? do they generally hire lvns? what is the salary like? are they dedicated to training and promoting advancement in the skills of their nurses? is it a good enviroment for a new nurse to learn and hone her skills? :confused:etc... any information would be considered very helpful. thank you.

How does a new LPN get experience if no one will hire you without experience?
I understand. I also received my license in January of 09 and I'm still looking. I live in Texas and LVNs are used in some hospital settings, but experience is required. The only places that I am getting alot of resume hits from are homehealth agencies, but I feel uncomfortable working in that enviroment (all by myself, trusting only my eyes and assessment skills, with no back up?) Keep looking... the jobs are out there. Do you have any LTACs in your area. They hired new LVNs and can train you for up to 3 weeks if needed.

NEW Texas LVN -
Hey everyone... I have some beginner questions. I just graduated and passed my boards in Febuary and I am looking for my first job. I live in Texas and LVNs can work in some hospitals and that is what I am shooting for. My plan is to return to school in the fall to persue my associates-RN with the college network, while working. I eventually want to work in Pediatrics or NICU. My first question is: Is NICU part of L&D, Maternal Newborn nursing relm or pediatrics. Second: My back ground is as a state certified Midwife and I don't know if that could hurt my resume or hinder it? Do any of you have suggestions on how to start out....there are so many options... To say that I am feeling a little over whelmed is a gross understatement!
