Interview with SHC for CNA position. What should I expect?

Published

So it appears to be that with all of the great advice I got on the board I was able to land an interview for the CNA position at SHC. Apparently I did well enough on the phone interview to be passed on the hiring manager for an interview. I have no real experience in the health care field and have no idea what to expect. I'm eager and excited, but nervous since for some reason I suspect this won't be like my previous interviews in other fields of work. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Jess,

Congratulations!!! :yeah: I'm sure you will do quite well. As a hiring manager myself (another field), I would offer this advice:

  1. Never interupt (interrupting is a sign of someone who is not a good team member and is not teachable), listen carefully as they talk.
  2. Don't worry about being quick to answer questions, a well thought out answer is better than quick.
  3. Be prepared and comfortable with talking about yourself, i.e. "why did you choose this field ?", "what strengths will you bring?, and what weaknesses?",
  4. Search your past experiences i.e. volunteer work, personal, workplace, that has any relevancy for this position or field and be prepared to apply it.
  5. Role play an interview with other people, in both positions, it will give you perspective and preparedness.
  6. Don't monopolize the conversation, try to dialogue in a natural conversational way, with answers that are no more that 1 to 2 minutes long at the most.
  7. Have good answers about why you are choosing SHC.
  8. Ask yourself why they should hire you, and then be prepared to inject that into the conversation when appropriate...i.e. "I believe that I would be an asset to your organization (if non-profit it's an organization not a company) because.....
  9. What kind of a team player are you?...think about this carefully and have good answers and examples.
  10. How do you deal with conflict in the workplace? Be prepared to give an example and how you resolved it.
  11. Don't bring personal stuff into the interview, it's usually not appropriate.
  12. Last one, good eye contact, and open relaxed body language, shows confidence, approachability, teachability, and friendliness.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the help, Veni!

P.S. How's your week going? Have you started working on your presentation or paper? I haven't done either yet, but plan to tonight at work since it'll be a late night for me.

I am starting to think I am doing something very wrong. I haven't gotten a call back from anyone yet! I think I am cursed!!!

But what I mean to say is... IT'S IN THE BAG!! Good Luck!!

Where are you applying? I know that some places, like Banner, only hire with experience.

Good luck on your job hunt!
