Starting the evening LPN program at Gateway Jan 2013?
Congratulations!! Have you been working as an LPN during your break? I currently work for Banner in the ICU so I am going to have to make some hard decisions about whether or not to work as an LPN after block 2. My thinking is that it would be worth leaving for the better pay and additional experience as a nurse while in block 3 and 4. Thank you for your advice and good luck with your career! :)

Starting the evening LPN program at Gateway Jan 2013?
I just got accepted into the evening LPN program at Gateway for the spring semester. I was wondering if anyone else has been accepted, and what your long range plans are? Also if anyone has been through this program, any advice, thoughts, or words of wisdom? Did you work as an LPN during Block 3 & 4? Thanks in advance for your help. Hoping to meet some study buddies!

Teacher Recommendation
Sassie, Thanks, I do know that, just trying to chip away at these last few classes, and it opens up the possibility of applying in other nursing programs outside of Maricopa. Appreciate the fyi!

Teacher Recommendation
Hi, I am finishing up a couple of prereqs, and was wondering if anyone could recommend a teacher for A&P and Micro. I am flexible in terms of which MCC schools I can attend. If you would rather do this privately, feel free to email. :typing

Interview with SHC for CNA position. What should I expect?
Jess, Congratulations!!! I'm sure you will do quite well. As a hiring manager myself (another field), I would offer this advice: Never interupt (interrupting is a sign of someone who is not a good team member and is not teachable), listen carefully as they talk. Don't worry about being quick to answer questions, a well thought out answer is better than quick. Be prepared and comfortable with talking about yourself, i.e. "why did you choose this field ?", "what strengths will you bring?, and what weaknesses?", Search your past experiences i.e. volunteer work, personal, workplace, that has any relevancy for this position or field and be prepared to apply it. Role play an interview with other people, in both positions, it will give you perspective and preparedness. Don't monopolize the conversation, try to dialogue in a natural conversational way, with answers that are no more that 1 to 2 minutes long at the most. Have good answers about why you are choosing SHC. Ask yourself why they should hire you, and then be prepared to inject that into the conversation when appropriate...i.e. "I believe that I would be an asset to your organization (if non-profit it's an organization not a company) because..... What kind of a team player are you?...think about this carefully and have good answers and examples. How do you deal with conflict in the workplace? Be prepared to give an example and how you resolved it. Don't bring personal stuff into the interview, it's usually not appropriate. Last one, good eye contact, and open relaxed body language, shows confidence, approachability, teachability, and friendliness.Good Luck!!

Gateway LPN Fast Track
Hi, I am currently in the CNA program at RSAA in Mesa. They have several different schedules, so you can usually find one that fits your life. The cost is $850.00 and includes everything you need. Hope that helps.

Anyone else taking the weekend CNA class that starts on October 18 at RSAA?
Hi Jess, I'm starting the class on Saturday as well. I'm also working full time, so no days off for 7 weeks...sigh. But I am excited to get this done. I have all my classes done exc A&P and micro, so I'm hoping to get into Gateway's LPN program fall '09. A long road, but worth it! See you in class
