Interview questions

Specialties NP

As I start my career search, I'm always looking for good interview questions. On the three interviews that I have gone through so far, I'd thought I'd post some questions I have been asked.

1. What was your favorite place to preceptor at?

2. How long were you at in each of your clinicals?

3. How many patients did you see on your own?

4. How long did you see each patient for?

5. What are your resources that you go to?

6. What was your GPA?

7. How many MDs did you work with?

8. Do you know current pap guidelines?

9. Do you know current screening recommendations?

10. Do you know how to start antianxiety, antidepression, hypertensive meds?

11. What EMR systems are you familiar with?

12. Why did you apply to this position?

13. How much are you worth? (I thought this was a rude question, anyway, the interviewer was asking how much I would want....tip: always give a range)

I will continue to add more as I go further on my journey!

Specializes in Surgery.

Geesh really?! Did you have to actually recite the pap guidelines? Mine haven't focused on clinicals nearly at all and more with what I'm currently doing as an RN and past experiences and how this will all relate to a new practitioner as an NP.

Yesterday I had all of the standard questions you'd expect from HR;

-Tell me about yourself

-Why do you want to work here?

-What would your mangers say about you?

-Tell me about something you've improved?

-What have been you're biggest accomplishments?

-What do you do if you're not familiar with something (procedure etc)?

-How do you deal with conflict?

It was intense! Definitely the most in-depth HR interview to date..

Thank you. I'll be having interviews and I will add interview questions if I encounter any different questions from your posts. :)

I had a phone screening with a recruiter a few weeks ago, and I'm not sure if this applies to most people here (but I'm a new PNP, just got my license and haven't ever actually been employed as a PNP) but I tripped up a bit when they asked about whether I had any PAID PNP experience. Any suggestions on how to better or more gracefully answer this questions without it hurting a new NP?

When I answered it, I admitted that I had no paid NP experience but emphasized that I was relatively independent during my clinicals and tried to focus on my independence working as an RN in a variety of settings.

I think you answered that question just fine...I think that if you emphasize that you were independent during your rotations and that you were able to manage X amount of patients on your own, I think that serves as a sufficient answer. Good luck with the job hunt!

Specializes in Med-Surg, Transplant.

-Tell us your understanding of the job

-Biggest strengths/weaknesses

-Tell me about a situation that required good communication

-What you do you like to do in your spare time

-Have you thought about how this career change would affect you (i.e., going from 3 12-hour shifts per week to a 5ish day workweek without defined end times)

-What are your five year goals?

No clincally focused questions like reyesnp mentioned.
