Interview Question!!!

So I am a new grad and recently passed my boards. I have been applying for jobs like crazy and finally got a couple of interviews. About two weeks ago I interviewed for my DREAM job at the local childrens hospital in the PICU. The interview went really well, and about a week later I called the Unit manager to follow up. She told me that even though she was not supposed to be talking to me about it, she had identified me as the candidate she wanted and HR was checking references and such. It has been about a week since then so I email HR to see what was going on, and got a response that all my references had been checked and she had notified the unit manager. She then said that it was HER understanding that the unit manager wanted to wait until all new grad interviews had been completed before she made her final decision, and interviews would probably continue through the end of the month.

My question is what should I do now. I am kinda confused. The unit manager calls me and tells me she has chosen to hire me, and now HR is telling me that she is gonna wait to finish her interviews. Do you think there is a disconnect between the manager and HR or she just changed her mind? And should I try contacting the unit manager personally again and see what she has to say?

Thanks in advance for all your responses.

Employers rarely go through the troubles of doing reference checks and background checks unless they're going to hire you. Unless you know that you have something on your references/background that may be haunting you, I'd sit easy and wait a few days before contact them again. Sometimes HR doesn't work at your speed, because THEY already HAVE a job! If you don't hear anything by Monday or so, I would probably try calling the manager again. You'll probably be getting an offer soon.

Good luck.
