Interview outfit--is this ok?

I have an interview for a nurse externship in 2 weeks. I was thinking of wearing a black, v-neck cashmere sweater, a black pencil skirt, and heels. With the appropriate accessories, of course (diamond stud earrings, a small diamond cross necklace, my watch...). Is this an appropriate interview outfit, or do I need to go get a suit?

I wore a blouse and pencil skirt with flats and I did just fine. Your outfit seems fine too. Just make sure your v-neck isn't too low cut or put a cami underneath. Also, I might consider color to the outfit since it looks like it will be all black and that doesn't say cheerful to me. Good luck! :nurse:

Well it depends on how low cut the sweater is, how short the skirt is and how high the heels are.

The vneck sounds a little suspicious... Don't get sexy, get professional.

Ah, I don't know...professional can be sexy too! There was quite a long and highly amusing thread about it...

Not too low-cut a top, or a cami underneath (as has already been suggested) and a bit of colour; maybe a contrasting scarf or shawl. And don't overdo the makeup and perfume! :)

I agree with the other posts. I think you should wear what makes you feel comfortable in. You will be nervous with the interview anyway and if you are fidgety with your clothes, that would be noticeable. When you start dressing in scrubs all the time, you will miss wearing cute clothes and dressing up so go for it when you can. Good luck in the interview!

A suit is always the best and most professional choice.

However, provided that the items are not too revealing, too tight, or too shabby, what you're planning to wear sounds fine to me. I agree with other posters: try to get a little color in there if you can. Too much black makes it seem like you're going out to a club and not to an interview, IMO.

My gut reation is - no. Nothing says professional like a jacket.

The v-neck is not very low...kind of your standard, non-cleavage v-neck. The skirt comes to my knee. The heels are 3 inches high.

I am trying to figure out how to add color--I used to work in the beauty industry, so all my dress clothes are black! I looked through my closet and I do have a silver colored silk blouse and a black jacket in there. Would that be a better choice with the skirt?

If interviewing for a panel of men, dont be afraid to dress a little sexy. If interviewing for a panel of women, dress professional and reserved, or you will just invoke jealous catty attitudes.

Dont worry so much about wearing the perfect outfit. Remember to bring your brain and you will be fine. Good Luck.

IMHO, I think the blouse and jacket are a better choice.

Careful matching black with black, if it's not exactly the same shade it looks cobbled together. If you have a smart contrasting jacket, say in a grey, that would be perfect. You can also go with cream, but I think it might make the outfit look a little "dated". Avoid bright-coloured jackets eg bright red or emerald green, you want to look smart but not limelight-hogging.

It's a pity I can't lend you my pashmeena, it's a lovely shade of silver-grey darkening to charcoal...:)
