Interview at hospital and nursing home tomorrow!

Published

Hey all,Does anyone have any advice for CNA interviews at a nursing home and more specifically at a hospital? I for sure would LOVE to work at the hospital. I have little to no experience. I have worked with my grandmother who has Alzheimer's at home. Also at least 6 years ago I worked at a drug and alcohol rehab clinic monitoring clients, administering meds, etc. I need to sell used on these interviews but I am terrified my lack of experience will hurt me. I am constantly rejected or that fact. Does anyone have any advice for the interview? How can I help them see past the lack of experience? These are also my first CNA interviews so I do not know what type of questions to expect. I am super nervous! What are your experiences? I am also currently done with my nursing prereqs and waiting to apply to nursing school to hopefully start this summer/fall if that helps any.

Hey, I've had interviews at both LTC facilities and a hospital. I would suggest preparing yourself by having an answer to certain questions such as:

- Why are you interested in working as a CNA?

- Be able to explain your interest in nursing/healthcare ... Mention that you are applying to nursing school

- Be able to answer those pesky questions which relate your past experiences such as, "Name a time when you made a difference in someone's life", " Name some of your strong points and your weaknesses," "Describe a time you've been a team player" etc.....

Emphasize that you're compassionate and empathetic.

In all honesty, you don't know what they'll ask till you get there, so just try to prepare yourself the best you can.

I recently just got a hospital job with only two months previous experience, and they asked the aforementioned type of questions. I wish you the best of luck!

Hey! I was in the same shoes as you a few weeks ago. Here in NJ they are desperate for CNAs. I had 5 interviews and 4 offers. I accepted the job at the hospital. I also have no experience and recently finished up my BSN pre-req's. Don't be nervous and be honest! They will probably ask strengths and weaknesses. For my weakness I told them that I'm slower than more experienced CNAs but that's something that will get better with time (as opposed to a bad habit or vice). Hope this helps! Good luck!!!

Sorry, I came to this thread a day late. How did your interviews go?
