Hi.
So I applied to a RN job posting in Michigan and within an hour or so, they called me to set up an interview . This is for a hospital and it's contingency nursing. The interview is this coming Tuesday. Now this is my first 'hospital' interview, so I know it has to be a little different from, say nursing homes and retirement residences.
So I'm asking for help from those who have gone through 'hospital' interviews. Any advice/tips would be appreciated.

I don't know what is contingency nursing.
I've had five hospital interviews... and been hired on four of them.
Most have been along the lines of:
+ Tell me about a time when you had conflict with a coworker and how you resolved it.
+ Why do you want to work on Unit.Name unit?
+ What are your greatest attributes or deficits?
+ Where do you see yourself in five years?
+ How many times have you called in sick in the last year?
+ How many times have you been late in the last year?
One was all clinical scenarios.

I've been to a couple hospital interviews (before I graduated, mostly for tech jobs), but the questions they ask seem pretty similar to other places. I've had pretty much the same questions that were mentioned above.
Make sure you know some things about the hospital, such as mission or vision statements. When they ask why you want to work there, try to incorporate some of those words into your reason.
When they give you the option to ask questions, I found one that most places seemed to appreciate: "What are the attributes/qualities/traits that some of your best nurses on this unit have?" You can hear about what they're looking for in a nurse on that unit, then tell them why you fit that profile (if you do! :))

Contingency nursing is basically on-call stasis or at least the position I applied for.

You should always arrive early in your interview. First impression is last impression. Just be confident and be positive. Try to give answer with big smile on your face. Try to ask questions also. Nursing is one of the best career nowadays.All the best. I hope you get selected.
So I had my interview. I was prepared and gave all the right answers. And I could tell the person liked me. Now here's the kicker: they were supposed to call me on Monday. But it's now Wednesday night. I called back to get feedback on my interview yesterday and today, but the person was unavailable. I was really excited about the job opportunity too.

Don't you hate that????? If they say they're going to call then why can't they just call!!! I had a call from HR two weeks ago to tell me that they'd call me within a week to schedule an interview once they knew the managers schedule. Ten days went by and they never called so I called back. They told me that because of the 4th of July holiday, I should give them 3 more days to call and then check back in. So I called back again today to let them know I still hadn't heard anything and this time the HR person was like "okay.....but I don't understand why you'd call us?? If we are going to call then we will call. There isn't anything I can do."
It was entirely weird and pretty depressing because I really really wanted this position.

I've had several people do that to me. There was one who was 'conveniently' away from her desk during 3 times I called.
That's what the interviewer (the interview I asked help for) told me, so I waited until Monday for the call. Nothing.......
That is terrible behavior and yet it happens all the time.
They don't have to say they're going to call but if they say they will, they damn well should!
I prefer it when they say, "We're going to make a decision by dd/mm and will contact successful candidates at that time." That way, you're not left hanging.
Waiting for the phone to ring is one of the worst feelings ever.
