Public transport in Sydney is excellent. There's trains to most parts of the metropolitan and country areas. Also ferries, buses, taxi's.
Prices for travelling to other parts of Oz vary depending on which mode of transport you use. Because Australia is so HUGE, you're better off flying between capital cities. There is often specials put out by the airlines, it's just a matter of checking online or reading the paper or even checking with a travel agent such as the FLIGHT CENTRE.
As for nursing discounts on airfares......... I doubt it. But someone else may know more on that and can post here.
Cheers........
For flight prices, check www.qantas.com.au or www.virginblue.com.au. Also a new airline is JetStar which has cheaper flights.
Public transport throughout Sydney is excellent.
To check out the cheapest flights try www.webjet.com.au as it has a comparison on all carriers on one page.
Flights to Fiji approximately $600 return but you could pick up a package deal for a little more that would include accomodation.

Can you travel throughout Sydney without a car, using only public transportation? Also, can anyone tell me approximate prices in A$ for travelling to other parts of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, or other islands from Sydney? Does anyone know of any nursing discount on airfares?
