Can anyone tell me what nursing is like in australia? How are nurses treated? Waht nursing issues do you face? These are some of the issues I need to know for my class.

Mmmmm I will be interested in answers to this broad question.

The questions are very broad. Too broad for specific answers. However there are several threads on this forum where this same question has already been asked and answered. I actually might make a "sticky" thread around the answer one day.

Nursing issues: poor staffing levels, no lifting policies that are not adhered to,zero tolerance to violence policy that also seems not to be followed, increased paperwork and less patient time, inability to attend training/education because of poor staffing levels. Just to set the ball rolling!!

My daughter had a male Aussie nurse when she was hosp for major surgery. I was too embarassed to get into conversations with him (he was noc nurse anyway). Have always had a fascination with Australia and the possibility of going there with the thoughts of permanent relocation. My main question would be to start with: are US transplant nurses needed or welcomed in Aus? I just assume that there are not enough positions for nurses in Aus to begin with so that is why Aussie nurses go to America or other places? Am I correct in this assumption?

Plenty of jobs around. I think Australians tend to travel-and with nursing you have skills to take with you and earn money whilst you travel. I think it's one of the 'rights of passage', you finish nursing, do a postgrad. year, then pack your bags and travel for the next few.

There's jobs here! It's just that us Aussies like to go "Walkabout!" That's why so many of us travel within our own magnificent country and overseas. Actually, we're among the most travelled people on the planet! Given our distance from the rest of the world, our travel record is rather inspirational.

Oh, and yep, we don't mind the yanks! So, come on down! :)
