March 2009 Visa Bulletin

Will the March VB stagnate? Will it bring more bad news? What's your guess?

My guess it is going to be the same. Only a guess but with the job situation here in the USA citizens would go crazy to hear non citizens are coming in to work. Sorry not what you wanted to hear.

The economy in the US is getting worse each and everyday.

Do not expect any movement forward for quite some time, there are even ads on the tv tonight with different websites for people to go to; to make sure that the jobs here do not go to foreigners.

Please be careful for what you wish for at this time. Remember if the facility has any lay-offs going on, or a hiring freeze; all of your long wait will be cancelled out since they will not have a job available and will be unable to hire. There are American nurses that are out of work now because of being laid off and many new grads from last summer that still have not found work.

This is not a good time to even be considering the US.

Just because one enters the country doesn't mean that they're gauranteed a job...Most people seem to want to come to the desirable places where employment in hospitals is very scarce, and that's if they're hiring at all....There are a lot of new grad nurses who were educated here in the US who are having a hard time finding a job as a nurse....I don't see how any company will hire a foreign grad when there are plenty of US citizens/residents who can't find a job in nursing....Some have found success in finding a job here, but those are few and far between.....just because some have found success doesn't mean that everyone else will find success.....as time goes by, the chances of finding a job are getting slimmer and slimmer....but people believe what they want to believe....Some are ignoring what has been said time and time again....they have this dream of coming over here.....but one doesn't realize is that sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side....We have a very strong union here in our hospital....Right now the travelers have even decreased....I haven't seen a fresh new RN grad from another country come to work in years......When I worked skilled nursing a few years ago, I saw some and of course they lacked skills and knowledge...But not in the hospital setting haven't seen any since I've been there.....

this should be an eye opener for philippine nurses who still believe and dream naively that they can work in the usa. times are very tough and from the replies above, americans are first in job priority. there will probably no movement in the vb until it becomes unavailable by july 2009. so the message from the posts above is clear, forget the dream about coming to the usa, stop applying as there are no longer any jobs waiting for you. time to wake up and face the grim reality that the retrogression might go on for ten years or more.

There were never enough jobs in the USA for every nurse in the world to come to the USA. My advice is to be patient and be prepared. If you went to nursing school 5 years ago be prepared to take a a refresher course or be actively working as a RN. I don't remember a time where there were enough Visas for every IEN. Of course things were easier.

So my advice it is to have lots of patience, have a plan B, and keep your nursing skills sharp.

I wouldn't go as far as not tell them not to apply....If they want to waste their time and money to apply, that's their choice....but they should face reality that chances of them landing a nursing job here are very slim.....They should be more proactive with plan B....Plan B is the way to go...

Ah, all the usual suspects:D

Yep. Same thing every month. :banghead:

Someone naively asks whether there's going to be "bad news again" in whatever Visa Bulletin happens to be coming out, and the "usual suspects" give them a dose of reality.

Then someone else complains about it.

Mmm-hmmm...

I think by now most people in this forum should already be aware of the following:

1. The US is in a recession, and US citizens are losing their jobs.

2. There is a retrogression of several years' duration, and no one is expecting much positive movement any time soon.

3. The actual number of nurses immigrating to the US from some countries--for example, the Philippines-- is decreasing, not increasing, every year because of the retrogression. And since the number of Filipino nurses being trained seems to be increasing exponentially, the percentage of nurses who can immigrate to the US is also decreasing.

4. The US government is focused on turning the deteriorating economy around by creating new jobs for US citizens. Increasing the number of foreign workers at this time would be foolish--why bring in foreign workers to compete with US citizens for US jobs?

Why people continue to ask whether there's going to be "bad news" in the Visa Bulletin month after month after month is beyond my comprehension. Is no one paying attention to what is going on in the US economy right now? So, for the "usual suspects" to respond the way they do is certainly understandable. For people to want to "kill the messenger"-- simply because they don't like the message--is not.

By all means do carry on spreading the message. I just found it strange, that the thread discussing the next visa bulletin did not have a single member who's actually waiting for his/her PDs to go current.

There is no reason for any of the personal attacks that have been posted in this thread. Nor any reason for it to be taken off topic. If you have nothing valid to offer, then please refrain.
