Episodes of practice

Hi all,

Student EN here, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give some really solid tips for when it comes to writing episode's of practice so asone can maximise the amount of competencies as possible.

I know what I want to say but writing it down can get pretty hard and very long winded.

Would anyone be willing to e-mail me one or two to use as a guideline?

Thanks

Not 100% sure of what you want here - how about posting an example and we will see what we can do.

Ditto what Gwenith wrote.

Willing to try and be of help, but need more clarification.

Basically when we write up proof of what we have done say like giving an injection. We have to start to finish include certain competencies like greeting the patient and gaining consent and then there are things such as maintaining their privacy and dignity.

Basically we have to show the nursing board that we have followed the proper procedure as far as safety, proper disposal of sharps and so forth..... like I said I know what I want to say but writing it all down gets overwhelming.

Thanks milenko

Write it EXACTLY as you would DO it! LIVE it in your head.

Take each step,- in your visual mind, -of the entire procedure, from start to completion. Write it EXACTLY as if you ARE going through the WHOLE procedure. Talk yourself through the procedure as you write. Words spoken to pt. Position near bed. eye contact with pt. Describe procedure. Describe safety aspects etc. Detail-detail-detail!

If this appears too much, too many words etc. Try as best you can to condense it. BUT! Leave NOTHING out! Give them NO room to be able to say you omitted anything.

Remember... even the seemingly simplest, insignificant things, are most often THE most CRUCIAL!

Hope this is of some small help.

GOOD LUCK!

Although it is a requirement of the registration board that you demonstrate that you have achieved the basic competencies for enrollment - this link is usually done in the curriculum governing your course. Google ANCI but I doubt you will find a copy of the competencies on the web. Try your library you should have a copy there - there should also be a copy of your curriculum. Look at how they have matched the competencies within the curriculum.

thank you both, every little bit helps, I will look up anci tonight on my night shift, lord knows I will have time, unless we get e few bell ringers LOL, you know what I mean.

Thanks and if it is okay maybe I will draft an episode of practice and post it for you to critique.

Cheers and good night
