Thought, given the present climate of things, I'd start a thread dedicated to our defence force nurses.

Some of you might either BE a nurse in our defence force or know someone who is.

Our service nurses provide a terrific service to our personnel & they sometimes work under pretty horrible conditions. We all do, I know, but service nursing is an altogether different thing than civilian nursing.

Here's to all our Defence Force nurses!!!...

Good luck, God speed & know your civilian colleagues are thinking of you.

Cheers,

Grace :kiss

Yes Tookie, that nurses memorial was WAY overdue!!

It's great to know at long last our nurses from the war years have been recognised.

Todays defence force nurses are rarely given any recognition or kudos. good luck trying to post the pic. At least you know HOW to!! LOL

Cheers,

Grace

I did not see this when I was here yesterday morning but I am sure grace it will get traffic today. I did not look at the site last night. Yes I do know 5 moms/dads/families who are already gone. There is a Senator in the states who is trying to start the draft again for men and women. In Australia are women made to serve or just the men? I was curious.

There's no conscription here in Australia. Not at present anyway! Last time we had conscription was during the Vietnam war. Our defence forces are purely made up of people who apply to join. No-one in our forces is there other than by choice.

Both males & females serve in our defence forces.

When we did have conscription, it was only the males who were called up. I feel if it's re-introduced, it'll be both males & females this time!! They'll get my darling daughter over my dead body!! They've already got my only son!

Cheers,

Grace

There's a massive recruitment drive on over here for defence force nurses and the usual Army/Navy/Airforce crew. We have the added stress of rolling strikes by the firefighters at the moment. The military have been covering for them, but since Blair has volunteered UK troops to go to Iraq, they're being stretched a bit too far for my liking. I don't really agree with the firefighters (I think they were greedy to refuse the 16% pay rise offered in return for modernisation of the force) but I've been keeping our local lads happy by making them hot cheese and ham baked rolls. I live with my boyfriend in a very large student residence that burned to the ground 4 yrs ago, so I wanna keep them on good terms in case we need them.
