Doctors Without Borders has been around a long time. You may want to check out "Volunteer Nursing" under the specialty tab at the top; seems to be a lot of info there. Good luck!

If you're an OR nurse or tech, there is Mercy Ships, they do surgery onboard ships off the African coast, but you have to pay for your board.

i have a been granted 3 months leave from work (beginning in feb 2012) and i am looking for a suitable project in africa to join. Does anyone have any ideas? there are soo many out there.. i would be interested in HIV hospice work and education, working within hospitals or clinics. I dont want to pay for an "experience" but really to get an idea of health care in africa, learning about how local medical staff work in their country and offer my skills and perhaps get involved in educating. I have looked at a lot of projects but really struggling to find the right one... has anyone perhaps been involved in a project or hospital volunteer that coudl give me some advice?
thanks
