You are not guaranteed to be able to work whilst on a F1 visa and you usually have to provide proof of funds when attending F1 interview. even if you get authorisation to work during the first year you are limited to work which includes where and how many hours especially during the school terms. Would that enable you to earn enough to cover tuition, I doubt it. What are your plans afterwards? What education do you already have as a nurse as you mention working as a midwife your training would need to be general to meet state requirements and all relevant documents sent to which ever agency the state BON wants like CGFNS generally should be sent from the appropriate establishments or be in signed sealed envelopes.

Oh and just to add you can not apply for auth to work until in the US and at school (that is my understanding) and for this you will need to check with your International student adviser

If not a licensed nurse midwife you can see if eligible here:

DHEC: Midwives

SC is one of a handful of states that permits non-nurse midwives to practice. In order to qualify as an international student for a visa you must show proof of funds to cover your tuition, fees, living expenses for your entire educational program. If not, you will not be issued a student visa. You can only work on a student visa on campus if given authorization by the school office of international students and approved by the immigration officials. Most are minimum wage and must show financial need. While gaining credentials as a licensed non-nurse midwife in SC would be nice I doubt there are on campus work opportunities in such a discipline. (Unless you have work rights from another source but it does not appear so by your post. )

CNA is not a license but a certification. Most international students can only work part time on campus per federal regulations when on an F1 student visa and rarely first semester. Very unlikely CNA's on campus. You must show proof of funds for tuition fees room & board plus living expenses and incidentals when you appear for your visa or be denied.
