International Graduate Requirements for Nevada RN

World Registration

Published

I've been constantly reading about CGFNS CES here at allnurses but most threads date back to 2005-2007 and there are really no recent insights. Thus, i started this and hopefully help aspiring RNs like me to get their Licensure in NV.

(all threads helped me get to where i am currently btw so thanks!☺)

First of- the requirements for Nevada RN for international Graduates can be seen here:

How to apply for RN/LPN Licensure | Nevada State Board of Nursing

But for those who wish to look no further here are as follows:

1. CGFNS CES

2. TOEFL

3. APPLICATION FOR LICENSE IN NV BY EXAM

4. Fingerprint/ Livescan

So here is how i did it.

------------February 2, 2016 I applied to CGFNS for the validation of my credentials(350usd). (im from the Philippines btw) and i printed out 2 forms.

1. Request of TOR from the School i attended

-my school responded quickly and sent my papers March 4 2016 and CGFNS received it March 9 2016.

2. Request for the validation of my Local License

-for my license since I'm not residing in the PI. I had to have someone process the papes for me. I emailed PRC international services and they happily instructed me to have an SPOA( special power of attorney). I went ahead and did the document and had it notarized by an authorizing agent; Sent the papers(form from cgfns, spoa, copy of my license) to PI and had my SPOA go to PRC.

They then instructed him to fill out a paper that needed:

  • Name
  • citizenship
  • license number
  • date of registration
  • date of examination
  • license expiration
  • date of graduation
  • date of birth
  • school address and degree course

After he filed that he then proceeded to a window and they instructed him to go to fedex located in front of the building to pay the sending fee 1,600php. PRC took 2weeks to send it to CGFNS. ( I actually know of a friend that waived this out; he said that he did not have a license in the Philippines so CGFNS did not ask for it. He now has ATT and will take the exam this 18th of March.) I wanted to be sure so i opted to request for my validation anyway. CGFNS received the paper from PRC march 10.

------------February 6, 2016: i took the TOEFL exam and passed. 104 and 26 in spoken in english.

Passing for toefl is 88 and 26 in the speaking section. Im lucky i made the cut off 26!😂

For the Toefl, i made an account at their website, scheduled for an exam(190usd) and had my scores sent to CGFNS( 9988 institution code) and NEVADA state board of nursing( 9272 institution code).

------------ February 10, 2016

I completed and submitted the Nevada RN application for examination and sent a personal check(100usd) to:

5011 Meadowood Mall Way #300, Reno, NV 89502

After 2 days, i recieved the fingerprint card.

I went to an authorized agent to do it then sent it back to them with a fee of (50usd).

[note]

You can call them directly to ask for the application and Fingerprint card sent to your address.

(I did the fingerprint instead of the livescan because i currently live in California) but if you live in NV just do the LS.

So there.. That's my journey so far.. Now, i am just waiting for CGFNS to send my papers to NEVADA and ultimately receive an ATT from NV.

Hoping for the best and fastest.

How are you guys doing so far?

Hello Kabayans!

Im planning on submitting my application and all the other requirements needed by the state of Nevada, but I see a problem here. I don't have a local license in the Philippines. Does BON- Nevada requires international graduates to have a local license from the country they graduated at?

Thank you very much!

This post is really helpful! I am residing in California and plan to take NCLEX in Nevada too. Do I need to be in Nevada when applying for licensure? Thank you!

No you do not need to be in Nevada

Hello and Good day. I am Starting up my application for the my licensing. I just would like to have someone to talk to or ask small questions to. Hope someone can help. Have a good day.

Oh and by the way. which one is better? TOEFL? or PTE? I am not sure which exam to take and I am told to take the exam as soon as possible. thanks.

How Long does the processing approximately take? thanks. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello @quinbii07! any update guys? Did you past your Nclex already? are you guys also from Reno? Wondering if its hard to get a job as an RN here in Reno.

Kari_zoette hello! I heard PTE is much easier test than Toefl but you have to travel to san francisco to take the test unlike Toefl, where there's a testing center here in Reno

Hi quinbii07 ! Your post was very helpful in giving me an overview on how to apply for a license abroad. I will try to apply in Nevada BON (because my aunt is currently residing in there) and I don't know the steps I should take first or what website to use. This is my first time applying outside Philippines. Can you please help me out? I would really appreciate someone who could help me through this application.

You can email me at [email protected]

Thank you so much!

DO you need a local license from the Philippines to challenge the NCLEX is Neveda?

You are not challenging NCLEX but applying to a state and seeing if you meet requirements. NCLEX is just part of that process. Have you checked out the BON website?

Hi Dianne. I'm sorry it took me soooo long to get back to you. Honestly after I passed the nclex July 2016 I haven't opened this thread at all.

but here I am.

so to answer your question(although probably too late now)

you can process them both at the same time because. CGFNS will wait for you Toefl results either way so it is better to apply concurrently.

After you have passed your Toefl or whatever English proficiency test you are planning to take, they will send results to CGFNS. After that they will start processing for the CES.

Please email me. It's faster that way. I'll email you back kabayan. [email protected]

Hi I am a a foreign nurse too and currently living here in Nevada. I already finished the the CGFNS report and it stated that taking TOEFL is not applicable .I called the CGFNS and told me that I don't have to take my TOEFL ,but I was kinda worried that I might still need it since I was trying to apply and take my NCLEX here in Nevada .Will appreciate your help.Thank you .
