Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and hopefully I'm posting this in the right area. I'm currently an LVN in Ca and looking into a 1 year LVN-RN on-line program based out of Fl. The name of the school is called International College of Health Sciences based out of Boyton Beach, Fl. I was just wondering if anyone here has had some experiences in dealing with this school, currently attending, or could provide any insight into the program. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

OK, first, they are completely unorganized but you can deal with that. For the students out of state, you are responsible for scheduling clinical sites and there are not enough sites for everyone. So what happens is students schedule more than what they need and that leaves other students out of luck and not able to finish clinical when they need to. If you don’t finish, you don’t pass and they don’t care about you not being able to get a site due to there being nothing available. Let me further explain for the people in the back. If you have an allotted time like 2 weeks that you fly down to FL and have to come back, Let’s say you have 8 Med surg days to complete but you were only able to schedule 6 because they were full. Well, yoi are responsible for completing those 2 days before the end of term and you may have to schedule another trip to FL. The hotels are expensive and so are air bnb. Also, the people that work there are rude and will not help you or even tell you what you need. You have to figure everything out on your own. My instructors in clinicals are cool. That’s it! Everybody else......... well....... just let me say good luck to you and I hope everything works out for you.

PS. Be cool with your instructors because they will definitely make your life a living hell. I’m cool with mines but I’ve seen them eat people alive. Don’t believe me, try it! Humility will take you a long way with them.

Thanks a lot for the details. What about the class work & exams are they fair ? Do you read chapters & then test out? Any lectures involved sorry for so many questions. I am just ready to start in April but I want to make sure I don’t waste my money because the tuition is a lot. I am paying monthly

I never ever had any problem scheduling my clinical. If I don’t see any available site, I just email the prof. and they are more than happy to help you. Yes, they are unorganized sometimes but they are doing their best to fix the problem. The school is legit. The instructors are knowledgeable. But, it’s up to the students, we need to put time and effort. We can only get what we put into it. So far so good.

Thank you so much for all this information. Is there any problem with California board of nursing. Do we have to take NCLEX twice. Is there any restrictions on license or further study. Sorry I have a lot of questions.

You can not just email a professor if there are no more slots available. So either you don’t understand what I’m saying or you go to another school. I didn’t say the school was not legit! See, this is why I don’t want to share because you always have people that twist your words and it becomes something else. Anyways, good luck to you all!

I know exactly what you mean! I am enrolled in the school. I never had trouble finding a site for clinical cause I always email them letting them know that I could not find/schedule a clinical days for a certain time I am in FL. They always find me a site to complete my clinical days. I didn’t say « you said the school was not legit » I said it for the people who are reading this thread. The school is not perfect, there are many things need to improve. But for those who are tired and sick of waiting to get in the nursing program in CA. This is the best option. As long as this school will take the students to the NCLEX and pass the test. That’s all that matters. But so far, my experience was good. Instructor and staffs are helpful. Yes it is expensive to travel to FL but not as bad as paying $100k to get in the nursing program in Ca. It is a fast pace program. It is also self taught. You have to really discipline yourself and put hardwork in order to pass the class. This program is not for everyone. If you have other choice go for it. But if you don’t, this is the best option. If you decided to enroll On this school. My advice, stop complaining!

This last comment is why I don’t say anything because you have these die hard schoolers that think they know the experiences of all students and the purpose of giving info is to help someone make an informative decision correct. There are a lot of people that can not afford to go back and forth to FL like that. I know people that had to extend there schedule because they could not find clinical sites. They were supposed to leave in 12 days and ended up staying 15 to 16 days. So for all the people that don’t wish for this info to be released in this group, here it is. All I am saying is that if have another option, Please reconsider, if not, have a great day and enjoy. But I’m done explaining to do-do birds, guys!

Hi can you please email me.? I start in June. Will like to get a head up on books to buy & school work or chapters to read. [email protected]

Hello,

Is anyone attending the program in April 2020?-I'm writing from Massachusetts.

Yes, I am an LVN in California and determined to advance my career to RN. Most of my coworkers are going to the ICHS. One of the CNA will be their final clinical next month. So I am excited to start soon. They said they go for CLINICAL in FLORIDA ONCE every semester for 14days. So for me not too bad. 15days x 12hrs each semester thats four semester and I think the last semester is more hours you have to stay.

hi! Are you still in the program? Or have you finished? I started this past feb and curious how its going for others or how the endorsement went.

I am about to start on June 10 next month. I am excited already because most of my coworker are already started in this school since last year. Few of them are graduating this year. International College of Health Sciences is perfect in my schedule I can study while working. And for clinical you have to fly to Florida once in every semester but you have to stay there for 14days x 12hrs to complete clinical in every semester. So you may be flying 4x to complete the program. They are accredited in BON Florida ACEN and ACCN Accredited. I am not worried about getting a endorsement from BON of Florida going to California as long as I am holding a license of RN that all matters. NURSING School in California are notoriously expensive. So, I think it is wise to go out of state which is still govern under the state and school is accredited that's more important.

Hey how is the program

going? I'm planning to start in June. Please let me know!

Hi There,

My friend just informed me of this school and I know you posted this almost a year ago. Are you almost finished with the program? Is it the LVN to BSN program you're doing? I was told about a GAP exam for LVN's (I, too, am a LVN in California). Do you know anything about this particular exam?

Thank you!
