I am not trying to start a debate, but is it true that people with state insurance get treated different than people with private insurance? My son has hearing loss and we have state insurance right now. His doctor is just blowing me off like he does not care. It has been established that his right ear has 60& loss and the doctor treats me and my son so wrong. I don't know what else to do. That is the main reason that I am so determined & no matter how many sleepless nights I have to endure, I will not give up on school. Has anyone else ever experienced this???
Positive feedback please!!!
I took out state insurance so I could go back to rn school. I've noticed a huge diff in the quality of care I receive. I work part time(no bene) and go to school full time. People seem to think that those of us using state insurance are poor and dumb. It drives me crazy. There are alot of intelligent people who may have been laid off or aren't offered insurance through their employer. For me, state insurance co-pays are 3x cheaper than private insurance. So why not keep the best deal?

In the rural area where I live, there are more medicaid patients and Medicare patients than those who have private ins. We have had private ins, but often end up paying many many times more than those that have NO form of ins. In our town, the hospital actually calls every ins co before you come in to register for any tests, surgery, etc, and see if you have met the deductible, and what % you would owe of the balance of the bill They tell every OB that is not Medicaid (maybe 15%) and tell them if they will pay cash now before they deliver they will take off 40% of the amount they actuallyowe. IF somebody has no ins. they setlle for much less. I overheard them tell somebody there total was $489, but they would setlle for $179. SOmehow this is not quite fair to those of us who pay the big premiums, and then owe the deductible, and the co ins. PLUS they collect the amount paid by the ins. In additon, we are confined to the PPO of drs. that our ins. provides. I have never treated any patient differently. BUT there are lmits to medicaid patients most drs will see in their practice, UNLESS they are on salary from the institution they work. Medicare Medicaid patents, provide the same payment as Medicare and commercial ins. SO NO difference in the payment. Several years ago in ER we were to try and enroll all patients without ins in MC PLus. Set up within this program was the option that IF they worked somewhere Ins was available, but they could not afford it, and still live, then the state would pay for that ins, (cheaper than Medicaid picking up the whole tab) and give them Medicaid as a secondary ins. BUT medicaid never ends up paying in this situation, as everyother ins pays more than it. Charts used to be stamped Medicare and Medicaid so everyboyd knew, but thank goodness that doesn't happen anymore, so most nurses will not know that about any patients. ALL patients deserve respect, compassion, and the best care we can provide. There are so many stipulations in different institutions, and so many people that have Medicaid try to make sure they aren't treated differently by over compensating in their demands. Makes it hard on everyone. I just hope we all remember to treat out patients like we would like/expect to be treated.
