Good day,

I just started my home care agency. And I have the same question regarding insurence. Have you been able to find out?

You would need general and professional , crime insurance (in case something is stolen from a client's home), and a small amount of property insurance to cover business equipment. If you have employees, you will also need workers compensation (depending on your state laws). It sounds like a lot, but if you are a start-up with few employees, it should not be more than a couple thousand per year.

Best bet is to contact a local P&C (Property & Casualty) agent. Check the yellow pages for business or commercial insurance. Remember to shop around. And check out the stability of the insurance carriers (www.ambest.com).

You should also check out the agent through your state's Department of Insurance to make sure he/she is in good standing. (I was an insurance agent in a previous life... trust me, there are lots of crooks and unethical agents out there!)

Good luck with your new business!

Thanks Dark Light, it is well noted

Hi Sofia2009,

No i haven't found anything yet. As a matter of fact, i'm bigining to think i should look for a partner because i'm in school full time and it's difficult for me to manage the business. If i don't get a partner, i might purse on it till i'm done with school. Which state are you if you don't mind me asking?.And where in the process are you? Thanks.

I am in New York. We just started, in the process of applying for NY license

Sofia2009,

Would you like us to talk privately? i can give you an idea of what you might need to apply for your license since i got mine from New York State as well. Let me know. Thnx.

Sofia,

If you don't mind me asking, how do you go about obtaining a license to operate a home health agency in New York. I am in NYC and very interested. I just don't know where to begin doing the research and who to contact. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Hi Tenderheart,

You would need to call the NYS dept. of health(the home care licensure dept.) and ask them about the home care application. Once you get the application, it pretty much tells you what you need to do.

Good luck.

godwillprovide, thank you so much for the info. I appreciate it.

You're welcome tenderheart, anytime.
