Insurance that covers clinical accidents?

Published

I tried calling Lifewise of WA and I asked them if they cover accidents at clinical sites as I'm in Nursing school. They don't really understand what I'm asking.. and kept giving me the generic reply of in network and out of network coverage. She even said she doesn't understand what I'm asking.

Anyone else run into this?

I think where their confusion lies is that they think you are referring to your medical/dental insurance plan when what you are referring to is personal . Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I understood your comment.

Are you looking to find out insurance that covers you if YOU get injured on a clinical site or are you looking for insurance if there is an incident at a clinical site that you may be liable for?

Liability/malpractice insurance for students there are several companies, one of the most popular is NSO Professional Liability Insurance for nurses, nursing medical malpractice. As a student I was required to obtain a student nurse personal liability/malpractice insurance policy in order to be admitted to the program/attend clinical rotations. This is a common requirement.

It looks like Lifewise is traditional medical insurance. Most medical insurance companies don't offer malpractice/professional .

I'm not talking malpractice, I'm talking if I get injured while doing clinicals.

Wouldn't that be covered by your medical insurance?

You would be covered by your medical insurance with school and/or facility insurance as secondary. If it is a facility injury such as a needlestick then the school might send you to occupational health at the hospital. But if say, you fainted during an OR observation that would go through your private medical insurance.
