Insurance Benefits

Why is it that being in the health care profession that our benefits are not better or do you think that they are good ?

Depends on who you work for. The last place I worked had great benefits. This one is okay. I've heard of worse.

I have great benefits now where I work. I don't have to pick a primary care provider and I can see who I want to see without any referral. Nobody's gonna boss me around!

BTW, I've reached 1,000 posts! allnurses.com is great and this is a great milestone for me!

IMO, the best place to work is the place that gives you a wide variety of chioces. Our health plan offers a standard HMO, with premium upgrades for dental and vision, a PPO choice, a POS choice, and a premium PPO. We also have the opportunity to waive deductable and copay by participating in a health screening program offered on site. We also have a new benefit which offers discounts to they gym, massages, and other wellness offerings.

Everyone likes something different and an employer that offers a variety is more likely to make most employees happy with the choices.

My husband has had better insurance at some of the retail places he has worked than I have as an RN.

I have worked many places (in different areas of the country) over the course of my 29 year career. I have found the benefits to be about average compared to those of my siblings and friends. Some employers have had better benefits: some not so good.

My sister (a public school teacher) has had the best benefits over the years. The government has deep pockets and she is part of a collective bargaining unit. But I have had better benefits than both of my brothers who have worked for a variety of businesses over the years.

I had the most wonderful health insurance in the world when I was employed as a factory worker at a toilet paper plant. The monthly rate for this PPO was $20, doctors' visits were $5, and I could see specialists without consulting with a primary care provider. Also, this insurance company paid 95 to 100 percent of my medical bills.

I became a nurse recently and landed a job that offered no health insurance (what a crying shame: a healthcare provider with no healthcare). Luckily I just resigned from that job and found another job closer to home that offers health insurance.

awesome. i hate that you have to pick from THEIR list

there are always worse. for 4 of us we pay between 4 to 5 hundred each months. this sucks.

ya know we work in the hea;th care system. we provide care for all of these people and you would think that there would be a kick back from the DR's or the hospital or something. I have no problem paying for my meds and stuff. but you think that there would be a perk somewhere.

no doubt. I worked part time at UPS and got full time benefits provided by the company. the work sucked but the bennefits were good.
