Information regarding travel nursing.

Hi I have posted here before and I gathered some great information and had another question pertaining to travel nursing. I graduate in May, 2010, and I know I will have to gain some experience as an RN at my local hospital(which I have already agreed to work for a year there). My question to you is this; which agencies provide the best package(i.e. paid compensation, housing, travel reimbursements),and which are the most friendly and easiest to work with? I have been researching many different companies and of course all of them sound appealing in their own ways, but which specific agencies have you had a positive experience with?

I will go with the agency that pays for housing, most likely. Also, I live about two hours(100 miles) from Houston, Tx, so would agencies consider this "Travel Nursing" if I were to do an assignment there? I am in my 20's and I am very flexible. I would indeed like to be properly compensated though. Would you also be willing to share your approximate monthly income and your state? I appreciate any input anyone may put in.

I think you're way ahead of yourself. The appeal to travel is seemingly awesome but I don't recommend jumping right into it. A year... two???

There is really no saying who is ready for travel and who is not. I feel you should be very confident in your skills. REALLY confident. You have to be flexible because you have to adapt to a new environment every 13-weeks or so. New protocols, new computer system, new ways of doing stuff.

These hospitals are looking for a strong person to fill in where there is a weakness in their schedule and lesser skilled travelers are easily overwhelmed. The demands are pretty high.

Next is networking. You establish a network of acquaintances, friends, collegues that are travelers themselves. They are the ones to give you the "in's and out's" of certain companies. NEVER and I mean NEVER just rely on your recruiter to tell you how nice THEIR company is....
