Information meeting at WCCCD

Published

Did anyone go to the information meeting at WCCCD last night? What were your thoughts on it?

I left feeling well informed, but surprised at some of the changes they made. I think half of the people there were left feeling a little dismal about it all. What did you think?

Feel free to PM me!

Many of the teachers teach at both campuses. Nursing School at Western is no harder or better than at Northwest, as far as the instructors go. (Speaking from experience of having nursing classes at both.)

 I agree.

This is exactly what my friends have said about their experiences. One said that it is a misconception that Western teachers are easier and NW teachers harder. Nursing school is hard no matter what and it all boils down to how much YOU put into it.

Well, I am going to try to take what everyone says with a grain of salt and try to make my own decision. I suppose it's all about personal perception, right? Thanks you guys for setting me straight!

 What kind of changes were made? I hope they haven't added more classes. I am finishing my pre-req's this is my last semester. Have you heard anything about receiving some type of certification or degree after all the pre-req's are completed? A friend of mine said someone told her that after the pre-req's are completed she received her associate of science and that she was graduating. I'm just curious how many credits are needed to graduate?

Are you still in the nursing program? Someone came into my patho class last semester from the nursing program and said that we would be attending from 7-7 4 days a week is that correct? He also said that 3 chapters of study today, tomorrow and then the 3rd day will be testing? How the heck can someone read 6 chapters in 2 days and expect to remember their own name!:banghead: Any accurate info you have on the nursing program will be appreciated. I'd like to know what I am getting myself into.:chuckle

Hi Sharazed, I'll be in my final semester in the fall :clpty:

For one one of my rotations the lecture is Wed 1-4 & I will be doing my clinical on Thurs from 2-11pm. For my other rotation, lecture is M/W 12-2 & clinical on R/F 7a-1p. It really just depends on the lecture/clinical schedule. Some students have to go to clinical after lecture & vice versa. Those are some long days!

As for the "6 chapters in 2 days...remember your own name..." Just let me say this: it's more important to remember what is in the book. Your name is student nurse, period. :chuckle Take a speed reading class if you think it will help. :chuckle Not only must you read 6 chapters in 2 days (sometimes) but they recommend you read them 2 or 3 times! :chuckle

Just calm down & take a deep breath. It is do-able. You'll have to learn to do this anyway. (It took me a while to realize it!) You will not have time to go crazy over anything because you HAVE to stay FOCUSED.

I am so excited for you! I seem to recall the anxiety over all the rumors & worrying myself about many of your concerns. I have learned to listen to everything, believe most of nothing and to take it one week--one exam at a time.

Hey did I mention? 2 rotations to go! (I will get into my normal exam countdown when I start up again).

Very much luck to you my dear. :heartbeat

Practice your patience (a few deep breaths & getting up & walking around the dining room table 3 times helps alot!);)

Aunt Nana,

You have a wonderful inspiration about you. I am pretty patient most of the time, but lately i find myself irritated over trivial things. I mostly think its the continuous class without breaking but thats the only way to do it. I practice yoga to cool down on a daily basis and drink lots of jasmine tea. From reading your emails you must be a woman of maybe 30-45 because i haven't heard the young crowd talking like this. It's great to know that someone has worked as hard as i am and is making out alive. Congratulations on your nursing.:up::up::up::up::up::up::up:
