Information Literacy

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm just starting the lpn to rn program at excelsior and I've never done excelsior before so I am very new to this. I was hoping someone could give me some advice about the information literacy requirement.

(I'm doing the exam option btw)

Is it cheaper to take elsewhere? Would you have to go to the pearsonvue center if you did the class though excelsior? Has anyone had luck with TCC: tor college credits? How do you/did you study for it? (i was looking at studygroup101 because so many people recommended it but i didnt see anything for information literacy on there) Are there other places to get the requirement done?

I appreciate any and all feedback and good luck to everyone!

I believe Tor's information literacy class is currently accepted by Excelsior College in place of its own info lit class. If you take it through Excelsior, the course materials are supplied with the class, so you won't find notes for it. The Excelsior College version is done online at home, and I believe that you have to have a proctor for the Tor class (but I am not 100% sure on that). If you take the Tor class, just get approval from Excelsior first. Good luck!

I just recently did the Tor option for Info literacy. Excelsior didn't give me any trouble about accepting it but to be honest the class is a joke. Tor College provides all the materials you need and then you have to take an exam at home that is proctored by Proctor U which is an online proctoring service that uses your webcam to ensure there is no cheating. I know it's kind of weird but think about the Ft Knox you have to enter just to take a Pearson Vue exam!!!

I just got permission from excelsior to take it through tor so I'm glad to hear it's not too hard

I'm taking it next week

Is the material hard? I need this class and want to take it but worried about all the study material

Don't fret too much about this. While I am not saying don't pay attention to the information in the class, it's not bad. A lot of it is common knowledge to those with basic computer/internet skills.

I did do it through excelsior and finished it in about 3 hours. It's pass or fail.

It's really not something to lose sleep over.

Did the Tor college exam for Info lit have essay questions ? That was the only thing I wasn't sure of and how difficult were the essay questions?

Thanks

It has 4 short essay questions. Not difficult. Also, it seems Tor has changed it's name to DavarAcademy.com. The costs have come down also. Info Lit is now $80.
